Evolution of the umbilical cord blood proteome across gestational development.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Pediatrics, Division of Infectious Diseases, Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, IL, USA.

Neonatal health is dependent on early risk stratification, diagnosis, and timely management of potentially devastating conditions, particularly in the setting of prematurity. Many of these conditions are poorly predicted in real-time by clinical data and current diagnostics. Umbilical cord blood may represent a novel source of molecular signatures that provides a window into the state of the fetus at birth.

PLGA nanocarriers biomimetic of platelet membranes and their interactions with the placental barrier.

Int J Pharm

January 2025

The Key Laboratory of Biomedical Material, School of Life Science and Technology, Xinxiang Medical University, Xinxiang 453003 China. Electronic address:

This study focuses on the preparation and characterization of platelet membrane biomimetic nanocarriers (P-PLGA NPs) and investigates their interactions with the transplacental barrier. Poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) nanoparticles (PLGA NPs) were coated with platelet membrane (PLTM) to construct P-PLGA NPs. Additionally, fluorinated polyethylenimine (F-PEI) was grafted onto PLGA NPs to prepare F-PEI-PLGA NPs, which were compared with PLGA NPs.

Childbirth is a dynamic process involving mutual adaptation between the maternal pelvis and the presenting fetal part. The ability of the pelvis to maintain optimal mobility during labor plays a crucial role in achieving favorable obstetric outcomes. The pubic arch angle (PAA) increases amplitude during pregnancy, showing pelvic tissue adjustment.
