Unlabelled: ICDs can affect a patient's perceived quality-of-life (QOL). This article describes the QOL in patients who participated in The CABG Patch Trial. This trial evaluated the potential benefit of empiric ICD implantation in patients with an increased risk of arrhythmic cardiac death as determined by reduced ejection fraction (<0.36) and an abnormal signal-averaged ECG. Patients were randomized to control (no ICD) or treatment (ICD) limbs. QOL was measured using the SF-36 and other measures among 490 (68%) of 719 patients available at 6-month follow-up. Analysis was performed on 228 control patients (those without ICDs) and 262 patients with ICDs.
Results: Six months after having CABG surgery, patients in the ICD group had lower levels of psychological well-being than those in the control group. In addition, compared to controls, patients whose ICDs had delivered therapy reported feeling less healthy, had reduced physical and emotional role functioning, and had lower levels of psychological well-being.
Conclusion: Strategies aimed at easing patients' adjustment to ICDs should be developed and tested for efficacy in the setting of ICD prophylaxis.

Objective: Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) via the right axillary artery (RAA) has become an alternative perfusion strategy, especially in complex aortic procedures. This study delineates our technique and outcome with direct axillary cannulation utilizing the Seldinger technique, which we adopted as the standard perfusion strategy in the sternum-sparing minimally invasive total coronary revascularization via left anterior thoracotomy (TCRAT) using CPB.
Methods: From November 2019 to December 2023, a total of 413 consecutive patients underwent nonemergent isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) via left anterior minithoracotomy on CPB with peripheral cannulation via the RAA and cardioplegic cardiac arrest, using this technique as a default strategy in the daily routine.

Background: Anomalous aortic origin of a coronary artery (AAOCA) is associated with an increased risk of myocardial ischemia and sudden cardiac death. This study aims to evaluate the medium-term outcomes of surgical repair for AAOCA and to introduce a novel off-pump technique for anomalous coronary artery reimplantation.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of 12 patients aged 12 years and older who underwent AAOCA surgery at Fuwai Hospital between 2009 and 2016.

In recent years, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has been performed for left main trunk lesions and severe three-vessel lesions, which were previously considered indications for coronary artery bypass grafting( CABG). As a result, more patients with poorer general conditions or vascular characteristics are being considered for CABG. In the current era of PCI, surgeons are required to achieve high bypass graft patency and to perform anastomosis according to the coronary artery lesion and the characteristics of the bypass graft.

Background: On-pump beating coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is a procedure that uses cardiopulmonary bypass to maintain circulation and it is a useful technique for CABG in patients with severely impaired cardiac function. Here, we report a case of left atrial rupture that occurred during CABG. Reports of left atrial injury are rare, and there have been no previous reports of such cases associated with on-pump beating CABG.
