Background/objectives: Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of the most common chronic diseases affecting the urinary tract that occurs mainly in men over 40 years of age. Among the natural therapies, proanthocyanidins (PACs), which can treat a wide range of immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs), have been shown to play an important role in the treatment of pathologies concerning prostate health. In this regard, the present study aimed to evaluate the different bioactivities of a grape seed extract (GSE), rich in polymeric PACs, and its version processed under alkaline conditions (ATGSE), characterized by a higher content of oligomeric PACs, in an animal model of BPH induced by subcutaneous injection of testosterone (1 mg/mouse).

Background: Intraportal pancreatic islet transplantation is a treatment option for patients with severe beta cell failure and unstable glycemic control. However, this procedure is associated with loss of beta cells after intrahepatic transplantation. Islet delivery devices (IDDs) implanted at extrahepatic sites may support engraftment and improve survival of pancreatic islets.

Evidence-based Cesarean Delivery: Intraoperative management following placental delivery until skin closure (Part 9): Evidence based care during cesarean delivery.

Am J Obstet Gynecol MFM

November 2024

Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA. Electronic address:

This expert review provides recommendations for the cesarean technique after placental delivery to skin closure. Following placental delivery during cesarean, sponge curettage may be omitted as it has not been shown to decrease the risk of retained products of conception. Uterine irrigation and mechanical cervical dilation cannot be recommended.

Dermal substitutes require sufficient tissue integration and vascularization to be successfully covered with split-thickness skin grafts. To rapidly achieve this, we provide the proof of principle for a novel vascularization strategy with high translational potential. Nanofat was generated from subcutaneous adipose tissue of green fluorescence protein (GFP) C57BL/6J donor mice and seeded onto small samples (4 mm in diameter) of the clinically approved dermal substitute Integra.

A hybrid construct with tailored 3D structure for directing pre-vascularization in engineered tissues.

Mater Today Bio

Hybrid 3D constructs combining different structural components afford unique opportunities to engineer functional tissues. Creating functional microvascular networks within these constructs is crucial for promoting integration with host vessels and ensuring successful engraftment. Here, we present a hybrid 3D system in which poly (ethylene oxide terephthalate)/poly (butylene terephthalate) fibrous scaffolds are combined with pectin hydrogels to provide internal topography and guide the formation of microvascular beds.
