DACA, also known as XR5000, is an acridine derivative active against both topoisomerase I and II. In this phase I study, DACA was given as a 3-h intravenous infusion on 3 successive days, repeated every 3 weeks. A total of 41 patients were treated at 11 dose levels between 9 mg m(-2) d(-1) and the maximum tolerated dose of 800 mg m(-2) day(-1). The commonest, and dose-limiting, toxicity was pain in the infusion arm. One patient given DACA through a central venous catheter experienced chest pain with transient electrocardiogram changes, but no evidence of myocardial infarction. At the highest dose levels, several patients also experienced flushing, pain and paraesthesia around the mouth, eyes and nose and a feeling of agitation. Other side-effects, such as nausea and vomiting, myelosuppression, stomatitis and alopecia, were uncommon. There was one minor response but no objective responses. DACA pharmacokinetics were linear and did not differ between days 1 and 3. The pattern of toxicity seen with DACA is unusual and appears related to the mode of delivery. It is possible that higher doses of DACA could be administered using a different schedule of administration.

: According to the One Health concept, wild birds can be indicators of ecosystem pollution and disease incidence. strains are widespread worldwide, but there are still few reports on the association of human infections with a potential reservoir of highly pathogenic human strains in wild birds. Fecal with uropathogenic potential (UPEC) can be transmitted between birds and humans and may be a risk factor for urinary tract infections (UTIs).

The spirochete causes Lyme disease. In some patients, an excessive, dysregulated proinflammatory immune response can develop in joints leading to persistent arthritis. In such patients, persistence of antigenic peptidoglycan (PG) fragments within joint tissues may contribute to the immunopathogenesis, even after appropriate antibiotic treatment.

Background: Data about the safety and the efficacy of flow diversion for distal anterior cerebral artery (DACA) aneurysms are limited. We present the largest multicenter analysis evaluating the outcomes of flow diversion in unruptured DACA aneurysm treatment.

Methods: Databases from 39 centers were retrospectively reviewed for unruptured DACA aneurysms treated with flow-diverting stents.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study evaluated the accuracy of two dental age estimation methods, the Bedek models and the Cameriere-European Formula (CF), using panoramic radiographs of 1018 Turkish children aged 5-14.
  • - Results indicated that the CF method slightly overestimated chronological age by 0.1 years, whereas the Bedek models generally overestimated age more significantly, with specific models performing better than others.
  • - Overall, the CF method demonstrated greater precision in estimating dental age compared to the Bedek models for the sample population in eastern Turkey.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated choroidal vascular responses in chronic central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR) patients using optical coherence tomography (OCT) during temporary blood pressure increases from physical stress.
  • It compared CSCR patients with age-matched healthy individuals, measuring parameters like mean ocular perfusion pressure (MOPP) and choroidal thickness at rest and during hand-grip exercises.
  • Results showed CSCR patients had higher MOPP and choroidal thickness compared to controls, but unlike healthy subjects, they did not exhibit a vasoconstrictive response to stress, indicating possible impairment in their choroidal blood flow regulation.
