The purpose of the present study was to assess the diagnostic approach and the outcome of neoplastic diseases of the hepatobiliary system and the pancreas that develop cholestasis. 84 patients over 40 years of age treated in our Department between January 1994 and January 1998 were included. The etiological cause of jaundice was established by ultrasonography, computed tomography, thin needle biopsy with cytological and histological examination of the obtained material or ERCP. 11 of the 84 patients died, 9 underwent surgery and 64 were referred to the Oncologic Center for further treatment.

Rationale: Thrombus is the most common occupying lesion in the cardiac chambers, it is often distinguished from cardiac neoplastic occupations. Among them, the most common is cardiac myxoma, whose imaging manifestations are often confused with thrombus. However, the 2 types of lesions have different therapeutic strategies and are both potentially high-risk sources of embolism, so early differentiation between intracardiac thrombus and cardiac tumor is essential.

Neoplastic meningitis, also known as leptomeningeal metastases, is a rare clinical entity seen in less than 1%-2% of primary nervous system tumors. Diagnosis of leptomeningeal metastases is difficult and is achieved by cytologic evidence of malignant cells in cerebrospinal fluid, or demonstration of radiologic abnormality. 18F-FDG PET/CT can detect leptomeningeal metastases before anatomical changes.

Autoimmune gastritis (AIG) is a chronic inflammatory condition characterized by immune-mediated destruction of gastric parietal cells, leading to oxyntic atrophy, achlorhydria, and hypergastrinemia. While AIG was historically linked to gastric adenocarcinoma and type I neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), recent evidence suggests the risk of adenocarcinoma in AIG is lower than previously believed, particularly in Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)-negative patients.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) poses a continual therapeutic challenge owing to its elevated incidence and unfavourable prognosis, underscoring the critical need for the discovery of new molecular targets for detection and therapy. This work included the analysis of three publically accessible HCC datasets from TCGA and GEO. Instrumental variables (IVs) were derived via expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) analysis, then followed by two-sample Mendelian randomisation (MR) analysis utilising publically available summary statistics.

Organ weight and size are important data collected during post-mortem examination not only in neoplastic diseases but also in other conditions, like cardiomyopathies. As post-mortem cardiac examination is challenging, it should be performed by experienced specialists. Nonetheless, the low number of referral centres in veterinary medicine requires the shipment of formalin-fixed specimens to perform detailed post-mortem cardiac examinations.
