Objective: This study was conducted to investigate and describe the anatomical details of the ear of the fat sand rat (Psammomys obesus).
Methods: Thirty ears (15 in dry skull and 15 in live animals) were dissected with the aid of an operating microscope and microsurgical techniques. Photographs were taken through an operating microscope.
Results: The temporal bone of the fat sand rat consists mainly of an unusually large bulla. Three distinct auditory ossicles were visualized and the manubrium of the malleus is relatively long in relation to the size of the ear. Most parts of the inner ear bulge into the bulla cavity and are easily accessible. The cochlea consists of 3.25 turns. The tympanic membrane, facial nerve, stapedial artery, and eustachian tube are described in detail. The large size of the bulla is probably related to the high sensitivity, particularly at low frequencies of the animals ear.
Conclusion: The fat sand rat was found to be an excellent experimental animal for the investigation of middle and inner ear physiology.

Mastitis represents a significant challenge for dairy farming, resulting in economic losses and environmental impacts. This study assesses a model for the evaluation of the impact of mastitis on dairy productivity and Global Warming Potential (GWP) under diverse management scenarios. The model considers a range of factors, including bedding materials, milking systems, health surveillance, and overcrowding.

Telomeres are DNA-protein structures that primarily protect chromosomes and serve multiple functions of gene regulation. When cells divide, telomeres shorten and their main repair system in ectotherms - telomerase - replaces lost nucleotide complexes ((T2AG3)n in vertebrates). It remains a challenge to experimentally investigate resource requirements for telomere maintenance and its effects on lifespan-reproductive tradeoffs in the wild.

This study aims to develop a solver to calculate the dispersion of emitted odour from the main sources located in a large urban wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). Its seasonal odour impact on surrounding areas, including nearby populations, was also evaluated. Different seasons of the year were studied using the prevailing meteorological conditions in each case, within the framework of a Eulerian model.

Hyperlipidaemia, the abnormally high concentration of lipids such as cholesterol in the body, has a series of deleterious effects on health that are least in part are due to increased inflammation and oxidative stress. Probiotics are living microorganisms that possess the efficacy to improve health. Among the many effects that have been ascribed to probiotics is the potential to lower the body lipid content.
