Objective: To study the pharmacokinetics of flunitrazepam (used for sedation in neonates and infants), to determine the influence of both gestational and postnatal age on the pharmacokinetic parameters, and to analyze the relationship between the hemodynamic parameters and flunitrazepam plasma concentration.

Methods: Flunitrazepam was infused for 20 minutes as a single dose (0.2 mg x kg(-1)) and as multiple doses (0.1 mg x kg(-1)). Six to eight 1-mL blood samples were collected per patient. Flunitrazepam plasma concentration was measured by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Results: Thirty-one patients (25 neonates and six infants) were included in the study. Only three of them received multiple doses. After the single dose (n = 28), half-life was 22.6 +/- 7.3 hours, clearance was 0.15 +/- 0.14 L x kg x h(-1), and volume of distribution was 4.6 +/- 4.1 L x kg(-1) (mean +/- SD). Plasma clearance and volume of distribution significantly increased with postnatal age (P < .05), but no pharmacokinetic parameter varied significantly with gestational age. Diastolic blood pressure significantly decreased with increasing flunitrazepam plasma concentrations (P < .05).

Conclusion: Postnatal age but not gestational age influenced flunitrazepam pharmacokinetic parameters in neonates and infants. Diastolic blood pressure was inversely correlated to flunitrazepam plasma concentration.

Background: This study examined the effects of yoga-based educational interventions on the volume and composition of breast milk in premature infants' mothers admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Materials And Methods: A randomized controlled trial was conducted on 78 primiparous mothers whose premature infants were less than 34 weeks and were hospitalized in the NICU of Ayatollah Rouhani Hospital from February 2021 to November 2022. Mothers were assigned to a control group and an experimental group, that is, yoga, using the block randomization method.

Objective: To compare direct, non-medical out-of-pocket expenditures (OOPE) between mothers receiving Alberta Family Integrated Care (FICare™) versus standard care (SC) during their infant's neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission and explore factors influencing spending extremes.

Methods: In this exploratory, concurrent mixed-methods sub-study, we compared mother-reported OOPE from Alberta FICare™ and SC parent journals. We thematically analyzed hand-written notes from 30 journals with the highest and lowest 5 % of OOPE.

Background: Meningitis is highly prevalent in infant because their immune system is immature and they have less resistance to diseases. Among bacterial agents, is recognized as one of the most important causes of meningitis in infants.

Case Presentation: Herein, we report a case of late-onset meningitis, caused by (Patient:17-day-old female infant).

Introduction: Newborn screening (NBS) programs for a defined set of eligible diseases have been enormously successful, but genomic NBS allowing for detection of additional treatable disorders has not been broadly implemented. All 3 types of primary hyperoxaluria (PH1-3) are rare autosomal recessive diseases caused by distinct defects of glyoxylate metabolism that are diagnosed genetically with certainty. Early diagnosis and treatment are mandatory to avoid renal failure or sequalae associated with persistent hyperoxaluria.

Background: Neonates with congenital anomalies frequently require perioperative allogeneic red blood cell (RBC) transfusion. Whole cord blood for autologous transfusion to neonates may provide an alternative RBC source, but whether sufficient volumes can be collected after delayed cord clamping to reduce allogeneic RBC requirements is unknown.

Study Design And Methods: Inclusion criteria were mothers delivering a viable infant >34 weeks' gestation.
