Pleomorphic adenoma of the lacrimal gland (PALG) is a benign neoplasm typically presenting with gradual, painless globe displacement and/or lid swelling. We report an atypical case of PALG in a 53-year old male presenting acutely, mimicking orbital cellulitis. Imaging demonstrated an extraconal rim-enhancing soft-tissue lesion medial to the left lacrimal gland, involving superior rectus and levator palpebrae superioris.

Stem cell-derived blood vessel organoids are embedded in extracellular matrices to stimulate vessel sprouting. Although vascular organoids in 3D collagen I-Matrigel gels are currently available, they are primarily capillaries composed of endothelial cells (ECs), pericytes, and mesenchymal stem-like cells, which necessitate mature arteriole differentiation for neovascularization. In this context, the hypothesis that matrix viscoelasticity regulates vascular development is investigated in 3D cultures by encapsulating blood vessel organoids within viscoelastic gelatin/β-CD assembly dynamic hydrogels or methacryloyl gelatin non-dynamic hydrogels.

Background: Several new treatments have recently been shown to have heart and kidney protective benefits in people with diabetes. Because these treatments were developed in parallel, it is unclear how the different molecular pathways affected by the therapies may overlap. Here, we examined the effects of the mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist finerenone in mice with comorbid diabetes, focusing on the regulation of expression of the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R), gastric inhibitory polypeptide receptor (GIPR) and glucagon receptor (GCGR), which are targets of approved or investigational therapies in diabetes.

Stem cell factors (SCFs) are pivotal factors existing in both soluble and membrane-bound forms, expressed by endothelial cells (ECs) and fibroblasts throughout the body. These factors enhance cell growth, viability, and migration in multipotent cell lineages. The preferential expression of SCF by arteriolar ECs indicates that arterioles create a unique microenvironment tailored to hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs).

Abnormal ocular angiogenesis is a major cause of visual impairment and vision loss in neovascularization-related diseases. Currently, anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) drugs are used to treat ocular neovascularization, but repeated injections are needed to maintain their therapeutic effects. However, repeated injection of anti-VEGF drugs may affect the retinal blood vessel phenotype and diminish therapeutic effects.
