Asymmetric dihydroxylation of (20(22)E)-cholesta-5,20(22)-dien-3beta-ol acetate (2a), prepared from pregnenolone, gave a 1:1 mixture (67% yield) of (20R,22R)-cholest-5-ene-3beta,20,22-triol 3-acetate (3a) and its 20S,22S isomer 3b. Highly purified 3a and 3b were obtained by semipreparative silver ion high performance liquid chromatography. Saponification of 3a and 3b gave (20R,22R)-cholest-5-ene-3beta,20,22-triol (4a) and its 20S,22S isomer 4b. This simple approach provided the natural isomer 4a more efficiently than previously described chemical or enzymatic syntheses. Full 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance data were presented for triols 4a and 4b and their synthetic precursors. Side-chain conformations of 2a, its 20(22)Z isomer, 4a, and 4b were studied by molecular mechanics and nuclear Overhauser effect difference spectroscopy.

The reduction of CO mediated by transition metals has garnered significant interest, yet little is known about the reduction of CO using f-element compounds. Herein, the reduction of CO to CO by tetravalent uranium (U) compound UO is investigated via matrix isolation infrared spectroscopy and quantum chemical study. Our results reveal that a stable carbonate intermediate OUCO () can be prepared at low temperatures (4-12 K).

A 49-year-old female presented with the primary complaint of hand tremors. Neurological examination on admission revealed signs of cognitive impairment, bulbar palsy, dystonia, cerebellar ataxia, and pyramidal tract disease. T-weighted brain MRI revealed hyperintense signals in the subcortical white matter, basal ganglia, and cerebellar dentate nucleus, with no atrophy of the brainstem or corpus callosum.

Density functional theory calculations on the cyclization of di-t-butyl 2-(2-aminophenyl)-2-methyl malonate (1) to t-butyl 3-methyloxindole-3-carboxylate (2) reveal that acetic acid-assisted protonation of the carbonyl oxygen atom reduces the activation Gibbs free energy significantly lower than methanol-assisted pathways. Experimental data confirm that reaction concentration plays a pivotal role in oxindole formation. Experimental results also indicate distinct reaction mechanisms at low and high concentrations.

An attempt was made here to a complemental analytical tool for classical MSI approach. OLE-LC-MS/MS imaging was proposed to plot the spatial-resolved metabolome through deploying mint leaf as a proof-of-concept. A dried leaf underwent chemical composition characterization using OLE-LC-Qtof-MS.

Direct thrombin inhibitors (designated as EuRL-DTIs) were partially purified from ethanol extracts of Euphorbia resinifera O.Berg latex. The obtained EuRL-DTIs comprised four major compounds: two isomers of phenolic compounds (CHO) and two amide compounds (tentatively identified as CHNO and CHNO), as identified by liquid chromatography and electrospray ionisation quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-QTOF-MS/MS), attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy, and/or nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy.
