As the assessment for radiologic-pathologic concordance, particularly for benign image-guided breast biopsies, is crucial in the management of patients with imaging abnormalities, many health institutions now conduct multidisciplinary conferences to assess the imaging and pathology findings in patients who had image-guided needle biopsy. We aimed to identify the radiologic-pathologic discordance rates and changes in patient outcomes resulting from the implementation of radiologic-pathologic correlation conferences in a community teaching hospital. Twenty-two (5.

Background: To determine whether patients with benign papilloma diagnosed on core biopsy can be spared from surgery.

Methods: We prospectively reviewed 150 consecutive core biopsy-diagnosed papilloma cases at a multi-specialty high-risk breast lesion conference to determine whether surgical excision was necessary. Of these 150 cases, 148 had concordant radiologic-pathologic features.

In response to changing learner needs, our institution launched a new translational curriculum wherein basic sciences and clinical skills were integrated, longitudinal patient care experiences provided, and earlier opportunities in specialty fields introduced to better inform residency program decisions. Medical students taking the breast imaging elective were enrolled in a breast imaging immersive experience designed to meet the School of Medicine's core competencies. In focusing the elective on a narrow range of specialized topics and skills, we labeled this experience the Breast Imaging Boot Camp.

Traditionally, the radiology elective has been designed to teach medical students the fundamentals of radiologic interpretation. When questioned, many students state that they want to take a radiology elective so they can "interpret images." For the students on radiology, rotation/elective education was often passive, consisting of didactic conferences and observational shadowing of radiologists as they interpreted images.

Purpose: It is well known that radiologic-pathologic correlation is critical in managing patients with breast disease. Although regular multidisciplinary conferences addressing radiologic-pathologic correlation are common at most major academic institutions, this approach is not universal in community-based settings or even some of the smaller academic practices. This study was performed to assess the impact of a weekly multidisciplinary conference on patient care to determine whether all breast practices should adopt this approach as a means to streamline and improve the quality of patient care.
