This study investigated the effects of cyclic bending stress levels and testing in simulated physiological solutions or air on the integrity of plasma-sprayed hydroxylapatite (HA) coatings of two different crystallinities. Hydroxylapatite-coated commercially pure (CP) Ti rods were evaluated by immersion testing in Hank's Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS) and by rotating bending in air and HBSS. Static immersion testing of nonstressed specimens resulted in significant microcracking of coating surfaces after 42 days. Specimens cyclically tested at bending stresses above the yield strength of Ti experienced low cycle fatigue failure of the Ti substrates prior to spallation of the HA coatings. Coatings tested at 1 x 10(6) cycles with interface bending stresses of 180 MPa displayed increased surface microcracking, but no bulk coating spallation. Coatings cycled in HBSS displayed greater amounts of microcracking and surface alteration than samples cycled in air. There was no apparent relation between HA crystallinity and mechanical integrity under cyclic bending stresses.

Background: This study compared the torsional resistance, bending stiffness, and cyclic fatigue resistances of different heat-treated NiTi files for minimally invasive instrumentation.
Methods: TruNatomy (TN) and EndoRoad (ER) file systems were compared with ProTaper Gold (PG). Torsional load, distortion angle, and bending stiffness were assessed using a custom device AEndoS, and toughness was calculated using the torsional data.

To achieve the assembled connection between dovetail profiled steel sheets and the boundary members in dovetail profiled steel concrete composite shear walls (DPSCWs), self-tapping screws were employed. Three DPSCW specimens connected with self-tapping screws were tested under combined axial and cyclic lateral loads to evaluate their hysteretic response, focusing on the influence of the number of self-tapping screws and the axial compression ratio. The self-tapping screw-connected DPSCWs exhibited a mixed failure mode, characterized by shear failure of the profiled steel sheets and compression-bending failure of multiple wall limbs divided by ribs on the web concrete.

In this study, we developed a novel composite catalytic hydrogel, which integrates excellent mechanical properties, catalytic activity, and sensing performance. Discarded hydrogel sensors are reused as templates for in-situ generation of metal nanoparticles, and multifunctional hydrogels combining sensing and catalysis are realized. Polyacrylamide (PAM) provides a three-dimensional network structure, while octadecyl methacrylate (SMA) acts as a hydrophobic association center, enhancing the structural stability of the hydrogel.

Smart shape-memory DNA hydrogels, which can respond to various types of external stimuli and undergo macroscopic shape deformations, have shown great potential in various applications. By constructing free-standing films, the deformation and response properties of these hydrogels can be further enhanced, and visualized deformation can be achieved. However, DNA hydrogels that can exhibit rapid and high-degree shape deformations, such as the inverse shape deformations, are still lacking.

This study examines the specimen size-dependent deformation behavior of commercially pure titanium grade 4 (cp-Ti grade 4) sheets under tension, with strain paths between uniaxial tension (UT) and plane-strain tension and compares the results with cyclic bending under tension (CBT) data. Specimens of varying widths (11.7, 20, 60, 100, and 140 mm) were tested in both rolling (RD) and transverse (TD) directions.
