Dopaminergic system gains importance in homeostatic sleep regulation, but the role of different dopamine receptors is not well-defined. 72 h rat electrocorticogram and sleep recordings were made after single application of dopaminergic drugs in clinical use or at least underwent clinical trials. The non-selective agonist apomorphine evoked short pharmacological sleep deprivation with intense wakefulness followed by pronounced sleep rebound.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of ovarian hormones on dopaminergic regulation of prepulse inhibition (PPI), a measure of sensorimotor gating deficient in schizophrenia and other psychiatric illnesses. Either in adulthood (11 weeks of age) or adolescence (5 weeks of age), female mice underwent ovariectomy (OVX) and were implanted with 17β-estradiol, progesterone, or a combination of these hormones. All mice were tested in adulthood for the acute effect of the dopamine receptor agonist, apomorphine, on PPI.

Background: In experimental and clinical studies of pharmacological treatments for Alzheimer's disease (AD), the electroencephalogram (EEG) frequency spectrum approach has demonstrated its efficacy in determining the characteristics of pathological changes in the functioning of different cerebral structures, interconnections between them, and disturbances in the brain neurotransmitter systems. The main results have been obtained in frames of traditionally used so-called "classical" EEG frequency bands: delta, theta, alpha, and beta.
Objective: This unified approach simplifies comparing data from different studies but loses the dynamic peculiarities of the effects because of their time-dependent transition through the borders of the "classical" bands.

The progressive decline of dopaminergic neurons in Parkinson's disease (PD) has been linked to an imbalance in energy and the failure of mitochondrial function. AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), the major intracellular energy sensor, regulates energy balance, and damage to nigral dopaminergic neurons induced by 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) is exacerbated in the absence of AMPK activity. This study aimed to examine the potential therapeutic advantages of AdipoRon, an AMPK activator, on motor function and mitochondrial homeostasis in a 6-OHDA-induced PD model.
