Published: August 1999

Progress in the analysis of the infrared spectrum of CH(3)OH in the 930-1450 cm(-1) region has led to assignments, confirmations, or new insights for a number of far-infrared laser (FIRL) transition systems optically pumped by CO(2) lasers. Many of the systems involve FIRL transitions among the CO-stretching, CH(3)-rocking, OH-bending, and CH(3)-deformation vibrational modes, giving useful information on the torsion-rotation structure of the methanol vibrational energy manifold. Some anomalies and mysteries concerning the identity of the lasing levels have been resolved, but several new ones have arisen. Altogether, 45 CH(3)OH IR-pump/FIR-laser systems are examined in light of the new spectroscopic information; about half of the system assignments are new and half have been previously reported in the literature and are here confirmed, extended, or revised. Low-threshold anisotropic polychromatic emission from monodisperse quantum dots.

Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) are solution-processable semiconductor nanocrystals with favorable optoelectronic characteristics, one of which is their multi-excitonic behavior that enables broadband polychromatic light generation and amplification from monodisperse QDs. However, the practicality of this has been limited by the difficulty in achieving spatial separation and patterning of different colors as well as the high pumping intensity required to excite the multi-excitonic states. Here, we have addressed these issues by integrating monodisperse QDs in multi-excitonic states into a specially designed cavity, in which the QDs exhibit an anisotropic polychromatic emission (APE) characteristic that allows for tuning the emission from green to red by shifting the observation direction from perpendicular to lateral.

Ten Years of Perovskite Lasers.

Adv Mater

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Low-Dimensional Quantum Physics and Department of Physics, Tsinghua University, Beijing, 100084, P.R. China.

Over the past decade, semiconducting halide perovskite lasers have emerged as a transformative platform in optoelectronics, owing to unique properties such as high photoluminescence quantum yields, tunable bandgaps, and low-cost fabrication processes. This review systematically examines the advancements in halide perovskite lasers, covering diverse laser architectures, such as whispering gallery mode, Fabry-Pérot, plasmonic, bound states in the continuum (BIC), quantum dot, and polariton lasers. The mechanisms of optical gain, the role of material engineering in optimizing lasing performance, and the challenges associated with continuous-wave (CW) pumping and electrically driven lasing are discussed.

Vasovagal syncope (VVS) in donors is a transient loss of consciousness due to short-term global cerebral hypoperfusion, which has a rapid onset and has complete spontaneous recovery. VVS may be triggered by pain, fear, anxiety, or emotional upset and loss of blood perse. It is an exaggeration of an adaptive response meant to assist in reducing the amount of bleeding/loss of blood.

Polariton lattices as binarized neuromorphic networks.

Spin-Optics laboratory, St. Petersburg State University, St. Petersburg, 198504, Russia.

We introduce a novel neuromorphic network architecture based on a lattice of exciton-polariton condensates, intricately interconnected and energized through nonresonant optical pumping. The network employs a binary framework, where each neuron, facilitated by the spatial coherence of pairwise coupled condensates, performs binary operations. This coherence, emerging from the ballistic propagation of polaritons, ensures efficient, network-wide communication.

Compact high-bandwidth single-beam optically-pumped magnetometer for biomagnetic measurement.

Biomed Opt Express

State Key Laboratory of Advanced Optical Communication Systems and Networks, School of Electronics, and Center for Quantum Information Technology, Peking University, Beijing 100871, China.

Optically-pumped magnetometer (OPM) has been of increasing interest for biomagnetic measurements due to its low cost and portability compared with superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUID). Miniaturized spin-exchange-relaxation-free (SERF) OPMs typically have limited bandwidth (less than a few hundred Hertz), making it difficult to measure high-frequency biomagnetic signals such as the magnetocardiography (MCG) signal of the mouse. Existing experiments mainly use SQUID systems to measure the signal.
