During 1993-1997, 247 cases of childhood acute leukemia (AL) were analyzed among inhabitants of the city of Kiev and Kiev region, excluding the most contaminated areas belonging to the strict control zone. The criteria of an FAB classification supplemented by immunophenotyping data were applied. The AL pattern was shown to be quite typical except for several peculiar features characteristic of this regional group of patients, especially the absence of age peaks in children with acute myelogenous leukemias (AML), increased frequency of the T1 variant in T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and higher levels of M4 and M5 variants in AML. A typical variant of M5a-AML with minimal signs of differentiation was found.

Background And Aims: Overweight and obesity are modifiable risk factors for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) in the general population, but their prevalence in individuals with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia (HeFH) and whether they confer additional risk of ASCVD independent of LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) remains unclear.
Methods: Cross-sectional analysis was conducted in 35 540 patients with HeFH across 50 countries, in the EAS FH Studies Collaboration registry. Prevalence of World Health Organization-defined body mass index categories was investigated in adults (n = 29 265) and children/adolescents (n = 6275); and their association with prevalent ASCVD.

Human recombination-activating gene (RAG) deficiency can manifest with distinct clinical and immunological phenotypes. By applying a multiomics approach to a large group of -mutated patients, we aimed at characterizing the immunopathology associated with each phenotype. Although defective T and B cell development is common to all phenotypes, patients with hypomorphic variants can generate T and B cells with signatures of immune dysregulation and produce autoantibodies to a broad range of self-antigens, including type I interferons.

This study identifies factors influencing spatial and temporal variations in magnetic susceptibility and heavy metal content in soils and airborne particulate matter within the Kyiv megapolis, Ukraine, and highlights how source apportionment differs in the long and short run. Topsoil magnetic susceptibility anomalies of > 70 × 10 mkg are observed around old factories. The tree bark magnetic susceptibility map provides a record of industry general low emissions for the last 2-3 decades.

Introduction: Citrus juice has been shown to cause QT prolongation in electrocardiograms of healthy volunteers, and naringenin, a major flavonoid found in citrus juice, has been identified as the potent inhibitor of human ether-a-go-go-related gene (HERG) channels as the cause of QT prolongation. Inhibition of HERG channels and prolongation of QT interval by antipsychotic drugs such as haloperidol, chlorpromazine, and clozapine have also been shown. However, naringenin's effect on HERG channel function in conjunction with antipsychotic medications has not been investigated.
