Background: Globally, healthcare institutions have seen a marked rise in workplace violence (WPV), especially since the Covid-19 pandemic began, affecting primarily acute care and emergency departments (EDs). Background: The burden of Aedes aegypti-transmitted viruses such as dengue, chikungunya, and Zika are increasing globally, fueled by urbanization and climate change, with some of the highest current rates of transmission in Asia. Local factors in the built environment have the potential to exacerbate or mitigate transmission.

Methods: In 24 informal urban settlements in Makassar, Indonesia and Suva, Fiji, we tested children under 5 years old for evidence of prior infection with dengue, chikungunya, and Zika viruses by IgG serology.

Emerging Threats: Antimicrobial Resistance in Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase and Carbapenem-Resistant Escherichia coli.

Microb Pathog

January 2025

Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, College of Applied Medical Sciences, Jouf University, Sakaka 72388, Saudi Arabia. Electronic address:

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Escherichia coli strains, particularly those producing Extended-Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL) and Carbapenemase (CR-Ec), represents a serious global health threat. These resistant strains have been associated with increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs, as they limit the effectiveness of standard antibiotic therapies. The prevalence of ESBL- and CR-Ec-producing strains continues to rise, driven by the overuse and misuse of antibiotics in healthcare and agricultural settings, and facilitated by global interconnectedness through international travel, trade, and food distribution.

The Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) have drastically transformed industries by enhancing efficiency and flexibility but have also introduced substantial cybersecurity risks. The rise of zero-day attacks, which exploit unknown vulnerabilities, poses significant threats to these interconnected systems. Traditional signature-based intrusion detection systems (IDSs) are insufficient for detecting such attacks due to their reliance on pre-defined attack signatures.
