Purpose: To assess retrospectively the long-term results of the combination of surgery and radiotherapy in carcinoma classified cT1.

Patients And Methods: From 1974 to 1993, 137 women suffering from endometrial carcinoma cT1Nx-0 M0 were entered into the study. The median age was 62 years (range: 39-85 years) and the median follow up was 67 months (range: 0-224 months).

Results: Surgery was performal in 132 women (96.35%). For cT1, the 5-year overall and specific survivals were 81.1% and 84.5%, respectively. The 10-year overall and specific survivals were 68.8% and 82.2%, respectively. Concerning cT1pT1, the 5-year overall and specific survivals, were 83.9% and 87.4%. The 10-year overall and specific survivals were 71.1% and 85%, respectively. Histological grade, pelvic lymph node involvement and myometrial infiltration influence significantly the overall and specific survivals of cT1pT1 tumors. According to multivariate analysis, pelvic lymph node involvement was a powerful prognostic factor for both the overall and specific survivals. If we rule out pelvic lymph node involvement, WHO histological grade was a significant prognostic factor.

Conclusion: Combination of surgery and radiotherapy is still a common procedure for cT1 tumors. When surgery is done before radiotherapy, tailored irradiation may further take place, according to WHO histological grade and pelvic lymph node status.

Objectives: In this study, the capacity of End-tidal carbon dioxide (EtCO2) levels to predict the risk of major cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients diagnosed with acute coronary syndrome and the relationship between risk scoring systems (TIMI, GRACE, HEART) and EtCO2 values were examined.

Methods: EtCO2 values of the patients in the study were measured with a capnography device. Each patient's MACE status was recorded.

External Validation of a 5-Factor Risk Model for Breast Cancer-Related Lymphedema.

JAMA Netw Open

January 2025

Institute of Medical Science, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Importance: Secondary lymphedema is a common, harmful side effect of breast cancer treatment. Robust risk models that are externally validated are needed to facilitate clinical translation. A published risk model used 5 accessible clinical factors to predict the development of breast cancer-related lymphedema; this model included a patient's mammographic breast density as a novel predictive factor.

Rare cancer survivorship research funding at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), 2017 to 2023.

Cancer Causes Control

January 2025

Office of Cancer Survivorship, Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences, National Cancer Institute, Bethesda, MD, USA.

Purpose: Rare cancers are defined as those for which there are less than 15 cases per 100,000 in the population annually. While much progress in detection and treatment has been made over the past decade for many rare cancers, less progress has been made in understanding survivorship needs. The objective of this study was to characterize the National Institutes of Health (NIH) cancer survivorship grant portfolio focused on rare cancers and to identify gaps specific to this area of science.

Loneliness, social isolation, and living alone: a comprehensive systematic review, meta-analysis, and meta-regression of mortality risks in older adults.

Aging Clin Exp Res

January 2025

Research Laboratory Psychology of Patients, Families, and Health Professionals, Department of Nursing, School of Health Sciences, University of Ioannina, Ioannina, Greece.

Loneliness, social isolation, and living alone are significant risk factors for mortality, particularly in older adults. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to quantify their associations with all-cause and cause-specific mortality in older adults, broadening previous research by including more social factors. Comprehensive searches were conducted in PubMed, APA PsycINFO, and CINAHL until December 31, 2023, following PRISMA 2020 and MOOSE guidelines.

Background: Nucleolar protein 7 (NOL7), a specific protein found in the nucleolus, is crucial for maintaining cell division and proliferation. While the involvement of NOL7 in influencing the unfavorable prognosis of metastatic melanoma has been reported, its significance in predicting the prognosis of patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) remains unclear.

Methods: Aberrant expression of NOL7 in HCC and its prognostic value were evaluated using multiple databases, including TCGA, GTEx, Xiantao Academic, HCCDB, UALCAN, TISCH, and STRING.
