To clarify the relationship between Th 1/Th 2 balance and clinical features, we studied the intracellular IFN gamma-positive versus IL-4-positive cell ratio in peripheral blood CD 4 T cells by flow cytometry and measured total and allergen-specific IgE by ELISA in 227 patients with various neurologic diseases including multiple sclerosis (MS), myelitis and HAM/TSP, and 42 healthy hospital subjects. The intracellular IFN gamma/IL-4 ratio in the patients with acute myelitis was significantly decreased, and the total serum IgE level and frequency of mite antigen-specific IgE were significantly elevated as compared with the controls. Patients with HAM/TSP, however, had a significantly higher intracellular IFN gamma/IL-4 ratio, lower total IgE level, and lower frequency of cedar pollen-specific IgE than did the controls. The patients with recurrent opticomyelitis (ROM) had a significantly higher frequency of relapse, higher EDSS score, and lower number of brain MRI lesions than the patients with conventional MS, and only those with ROM showed a significant association with the HLA-DPB 1 *0501 allele. The ROM patients had a significantly higher intracellular IFN gamma/IL-4 ratio and IL-4-/IFN-gamma + cell percentages than the controls. These findings suggest that the Th 2 cell response predominates in acute myelitis with hyperIgEaemia (atopic myelitis), whereas the Th 1 cell response predominates in ROM and HAM/TSP.

IL-21 is a type I cytokine that is produced by activated CD4 T cells and has a significant impact on the growth, survival, and functional activation of B lymphocytes. While IL-21 has been identified in several teleost fish species, its function and associated mechanisms focus on teleost fish B cells remain largely unknown. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of IL-21 (OnIL-21) on IgM B cells from Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus), as well as the intracellular signaling transduction pathway involved.

Objectives: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that has become more prevalent worldwide because of lifestyle changes. It leads to serious complications, including increased atherosclerosis, protein glycosylation, endothelial dysfunction, and vascular denervation. These complications impair neovascularization and wound healing, resulting in delayed recovery from injuries and an elevated risk of infections.

Objective: The aim of this prospective cohort study is to analyse the humoral and cellular vaccine responses in paediatric heart transplant recipients (HTR, n = 12), and compare it with the response in healthy controls (HC, n = 14). All participants were 5-18 years old and vaccinated with mRNA vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 between December 2021 and May 2022.

Methods: The humoral response was measured by quantifying antibody titers against SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (anti-S).

Callistephus chinensis Nees is an herbaceous plant in the Asteraceae family that has various traditional effects, especially in preventing liver disease. Callistephus A (CA) is a sesquiterpene compound with a rare 6/7 ring skeleton, which has been isolated only from the Callistephus chinensis Nees, but whether CA protects the liver is unknown. Immunological liver injury (ILI) is a common liver disease mediated by the immune system.

belongs to the NOD-like receptor family and is recognized as a modulator of innate immune mechanisms. In this study, we firstly report that () acts as a negative regulator in the antiviral immune response. is ubiquitously expressed across tested tissues, displaying particularly high expression in the intestine, spleen, gill and kidney.
