Sarcoptes scabiei infestation in llamas (Lama glama) of the Argentine Puna: Clinical study, and morphological and molecular mite identification.

Vet Parasitol Reg Stud Reports

January 2025

Instituto de Investigación y Desarrollo Tecnológico para la Agricultura Familiar - Región NOA (IPAF NOA), Instituto Nacional de Tecnología Agropecuaria (INTA), Posta de Hornillos, 4624 Jujuy, Argentina.

Sarcoptic mange has been described in domestic South American camelids (SACs), exported to non-Andean countries, and in wild SAC in their natural habitat. Reports on the incidence of this infestation in llamas or alpacas raised in their original location, on the other hand, are missing. The present study aimed to detect and characterize cases of sarcoptic mange in herds of llamas (Lama glama) raised in the high plateau region (Puna) of the province of Jujuy, Argentina.

Unfolded protein response during the progression of colorectal carcinogenesis.

Acta Cir Bras

January 2025

Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul - Postgraduate Program in Health and Development in the Midwest Region - Campo Grande (MS) - Brazil.

Purpose: To evaluate the molecular evolution of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress during colorectal cancer carcinogenesis.

Methods: Fifty-six hairless mice were divided into two groups: control (no intervention); and carcinogenesis (treated with two doses of azoxymethane at 10 mg/kg during the third and the fourth week and dextran sodium sulfate at 2.5% for seven days in the second, fifth, and eighth week).

Blueberry plants are among the most important fruit-bearing shrubs, but they have shallow, hairless roots that are not conducive to water and nutrient uptake, especially under drought conditions. Therefore, the mechanism underlying blueberry root drought tolerance should be clarified. Hence, we established a yeast expression library comprising blueberry genes associated with root responses to drought stress.

This study investigated the protective effects of a ceramides derivates from the peach (PF3) on photoaging by UV-irradiated hairless mice. Mice were randomly divided into seven groups: AIN93G without UVB exposure (normal control, NC), AIN93G with UVB exposure (control, C), AIN93G supplemented 100 mg/kg body weight (BW) of L-ascorbic acid with UVB exposure (AA), AIN93G supplemented 100 mg/kg BW of arbutin with UVB exposure (Arbutin), AIN93G supplemented 10 mg/kg BW of PF3 with UVB exposure (10PF3), AIN93G supplemented 20 mg/kg BW of PF3 with UVB exposure (20PF3), and AIN93G supplemented 40 mg/kg BW of PF3 with UVB exposure (40PF3). The study examined the impact of PF3 on skin hydration, wrinkle formation, and melanogenesis using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), real-time polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR), and Western blot analysis.

Root systems are uniquely adapted to fluctuations in external nutrient availability. In response to suboptimal nitrogen conditions, plants adopt a root foraging strategy that favors a deeper and more branched root architecture, enabling them to explore and acquire soil resources. This response is gradually suppressed as nitrogen conditions improve.
