Background: To evaluate the effects of hyperinsulinemia on left ventricular (LV) structure and function in older hypertensive subjects
Methods: Thirty-seven hypertensive subjects (17 men/20 women) aged 50 to 80, were studied. LV mass were evaluated echocardiographically according to the Penn convention. A 75-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) was performed after overnight fasting, and both blood glucose and insulin concentrations were assayed at 0, 30, 60, 90, 120, and 180 minutes. Comparison between groups was performed by analysis of variance. A P value of .05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: When the hypertensive patients were divided into two groups according to the median value of 2-hour post-loading plasma insulin, there was no difference in blood pressure levels between the groups. However, hyperinsulinemic hypertensive subjects had an increased LV mass (P < .05), mean wall thickness, and interventricular septum thickness (P < .05 for both parameters) and had better systolic function-ejection and shortening fractions (P < .0001 for both indices).
Conclusions: Hyperinsulinemia may be associated with increased left ventricular mass and with a better systolic performance in older hypertensive subjects.

Background: Interventricular septal dissection is a critical disease characterized by the separation of the intraventricular septum into two layers, forming an intermediate layer with a cystic cavity that communicates with the root of the aorta or ventricle. It has low morbidity and high mortality rates.
Case Presentation: Case 1: A 58-year-old male with a history of hypertension and smoking presented to a local hospital due to chest tightness and pain for 4 days.

Background: Studies regarding hypercoagulation in Non-Arteritic Anterior Ischemic Optic Neuropathy (NAION) patients have produced conflicting results. With a presumption that the early coagulation phase may affect the occurrence of NAION, this study aims to investigate the early coagulation markers, E-selectin and P-selectin, to determine whether these biomolecular changes play a significant role in NAION, thus potentially leading to a better clinical approach.
Methods: A cross-sectional study involving two groups of NAION subjects, a hypercoagulation group and a non-hypercoagulation group, was conducted in the Neuro-Ophthalmology Division, Department of Ophthalmology, FKUI-RSCM Kirana from October 2020 to April 2022.
Introduction: Acute esophageal necrosis (AEN) is a rare and lethal condition that may progress to sepsis and perforations. Most related literature comes from case reports; however, a few small reviews have been published. We conducted a large systematic review of AEN using PubMed, MEDLINE, and Embase to organize data into one consolidated manuscript, find potential prognosticators of illness, and determine possible treatment guidelines for AEN.

Background: Hypertension is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease and premature death worldwide, and it puts a heavy burden on the healthcare system. Therefore, it is very important to detect and evaluate hypertension and related cardiovascular events to enable early prevention, detection, and management. Hypertension can be detected in a timely manner with cardiac signals, such as through an electrocardiogram (ECG) and photoplethysmogram (PPG) , which can be observed via wearable sensors.

This study investigates whether GLP-1RAs influence the risk for age-related ocular diseases.
Design: Retrospective cohort study.
