[Meningioma with a peritumoral abscess].

Zh Vopr Neirokhir Im N N Burdenko

Published: June 1999

The paper presents a rare case of meningioma associated with peritumoral abscess formed in a 63-year-old female undergone right nephrectomy for abscessed pyelonephritis and drainage of gluteal abscesses 3 months before admission. Brain computed tomography revealed a left frontotemporal heterogeneous mass lesion with margin contrast accumulation. At surgery, convexity meningioma with peritumoral abscess was totally removed. Hematogenous spread of Staphylococcus aureus is most likely to be responsible for peritumoral abscess. The paper also gives a review of literature and a brief account of the case.

Autoimmune pancreatitis: Biopsy interpretation and differential diagnosis.

Semin Diagn Pathol

March 2024

Institute of Liver Studies, King's College Hospital, London SE5 9RS, UK. Electronic address:

Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is classified into type 1 (IgG4-related) and type 2 (IgG4-unrelated) and the interpretation of pancreatic biopsy findings plays a crucial role in their diagnosis. Needle biopsy of type 1 AIP in the acute or subacute phase shows a diffuse lymphoplasmacytic infiltrate, storiform fibrosis, obliterative phlebitis, and the infiltration of many IgG4-positive plasma cells. In a later phase, changes become less inflammatory and more fibrotic, making interpretations more challenging.

Introduction And Importance: As revealed as a colocutaneous fistula with an abscess in the abdominal wall, colon cancer is rare. Intracranial abscess coexistent with a high grade glioma, without prior surgical intervention, is an unusual occurrence. This paper presents two such cases with abscess surrounding the glioblastoma in an immunocompromised individual and abscess within the glioblastoma in an immunocompetent patient. Adjuvant therapy was tapered as per each patient's clinical response.

Cystic glioblastomas are aggressive primary brain tumors that may both destroy and displace the surrounding brain tissue as they grow. The mechanisms underlying these tumors' destructive effect could include exposure of brain tissue to tumor-derived cytokines, but quantitative cytokine data are lacking. Here, we provide quantitative data on leukocyte markers and cytokines in the cyst fluid from 21 cystic glioblastomas, which we compare to values in 13 brain abscess pus samples.

Comparison of tumor response following conventional versus drug-eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization in early- and very early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma.

J Interv Med

February 2022

Department of Interventional Radiology, Nanjing Medical University Third School of Clinical Medicine, Nanjing First Hospital, Nanjing, Jiangsu, 210006, China.

Objective: To compare the safety of conventional transarterial chemoembolization (cTACE) vs drug-eluting bead TACE (DEB-TACE) in very early- and early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: Data of patients with early- and very early-stage HCC treated with cTACE or DEB-TACE were evaluated retrospectively in this study. A total of 40 patients were included, 20 treated with cTACE and 20 with DEB-TACE.
