During the preslaughter phase, cattle are transported from their place of origin to a slaughter facility, experiencing transportation, lairage, environmental factors, and novel environments. Although research exists that has focused how the preslaughter phase impacts cattle welfare and meat quality, some significant preslaughter management factors and subsequent welfare and meat quality outcomes have not been thoroughly explored. The objective of this study was to assess the effects of preslaughter management factors on welfare and meat quality outcomes in fed beef cattle in the United States.

Though unified by challenges in the treatment of status epilepticus (SE), rural Canada is simultaneously massive and diverse, spanning the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic Oceans. According to the national statistical agency, the most rural jurisdiction in Canada is the Arctic territory of Nunavut. In particular, the Kivalliq region of Nunavut represents a unique epidemiologic SE space because any treatment beyond typical first-line lorazepam and second-line phenytoin by a non-neurologist locum tenens requires airborne evacuation over a thousand kilometers away to a single hospital with a single electroencephalographic (EEG) laboratory.

Unicellular eukaryotic plankton communities (protists) are the major basis of the marine food web. The spring bloom is especially important, because of its high biomass. However, it is poorly described how the protist community composition in Arctic surface waters develops from winter to spring.

Small ORF-encoded peptides (SEPs) are a class of low molecular weight proteins and peptides comprising <100 amino acids with important functions in various life activities. Although the sequence length is short, SEPs might also have post-translational modification (PTM). Phosphorylation is one of the most essential PTMs of proteins.

In our earlier works, we have shown that the rate-limiting steps, associated with the dark-to-light transition of Photosystem II (PSII), reflecting the photochemical activity and structural dynamics of the reaction center complex, depend largely on the lipidic environment of the protein matrix. Using chlorophyll- fluorescence transients (ChlF) elicited by single-turnover saturating flashes, it was shown that the half-waiting time (Δ ) between consecutive excitations, at which 50% of the fluorescence increment was reached, was considerably larger in isolated PSII complexes of () than in the native thylakoid membrane (TM). Further, it was shown that the addition of a TM lipid extract shortened Δ of isolated PSII, indicating that at least a fraction of the 'missing' lipid molecules, replaced by detergent molecules, caused the elongation of Δ .
