Embolization of an Intracranial Vertebral Artery Aneurysm via the Deep Cervical Artery.

J Neurol Surg A Cent Eur Neurosurg

July 2024

Department of Radiology and Neuroradiology, Sana Kliniken Duisburg GmbH Klinik für Radiologie und Neuroradiologie, Duisburg, Germany.

Treatment of vertebral artery aneurysms can be challenging due to the unusual vascular anatomy or unfeasibility of traditional endovascular techniques. We describe a novel approach for endovascular treatment of a ruptured intracranial vertebral artery aneurysm with bilateral vertebral artery occlusions and hypoplasia of the posterior communicating arteries. Successful coil embolization was performed using a collateral pathway for microcatheterization via anastomosis between the deep cervical artery and the vertebral artery.

Large and bleeding gastroduodenal artery aneurysm: Challenging diagnosis and treatment. A case report.

Int J Surg Case Rep

January 2024

Department of Medical and Surgical Sciences and Translational Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Psychology, St Andrea Hospital, Sapienza University, Rome, Italy. Electronic address:

Introduction: Visceral artery aneurysms (VAA), including gastroduodenal artery aneurysms (GAA), are rare pathologies that can be challenging to diagnose due to their often-asymptomatic nature. VAA are usually correlated to atherosclerosis, fibro dysplasia, or hemodynamics changes, while pseudo aneurysms are mostly correlated to infection, inflammation, traumas, or iatrogenic lesions.

Presentation Of Case: We report the case of an 82-years-old female presenting with abdominal pain and hematemesis.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the technical success rate, the selectivity of transarterial chemoembolisation (TACE), the complication rate, the radiation dose given to the patients and the hospitalization stay between TACE performed using femoral artery approach (FAA) and TACE performed using radial artery approach (RAA) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: Between June 2020 and April 2022, 49 patients with HCC who underwent 116 TACEs (75 using FAA and 41 using RAA) were included. Differences in technical success rate, selectivity of micro-catheterization, radiation dose given to the patients, fluoroscopy time, hospitalization stay duration, and complication rate were compared between FAA and RAA using Fisher exact or Student tests.

Article Synopsis
  • Traditional methods for treating hard-to-reach aneurysms can be difficult, so researchers explored micro-guidewire electrocoagulation as an alternative approach.
  • In a study involving seven patients treated between January 2020 and May 2022, this technique resulted in the complete disappearance of all aneurysms and no cases of rebleeding during follow-up.
  • While initial results are promising, further research with larger groups is necessary to better understand the safety and long-term effectiveness of this method.
