  • Quality control and quality assurance in clinical laboratories are being closely examined as the procedures to ensure data reliability continue to increase.
  • The need for more stringent protocols shows no signs of slowing down, prompting a re-evaluation of their effectiveness.
  • The author provides cost data to address the inevitable cost/benefit questions that arise from these growing requirements.

Article Abstract

Quality control and quality assurance increasingly are under evaluation. The number of procedures required to guarantee the medical reliability of the data generated by clinical laboratories has grown steadily with little or no signs of abating. Laboratorians would do well to anticipate the cost/benefit questions that appear inevitable. In this article, the author adduces some cost data.

Poor water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) are the primary risks of exposure to enteric viral infection. Our study aimed to describe the role of WASH conditions and practices as risk factors for enteric viral infections in children under 5. Literature on the risk factors associated with all-cause diarrhea masks the taxa-specific drivers of diarrhea from specific pathogens, limiting the application of relevant control strategies.

Muscle cramps, which are frequently encountered in hemodialysis patients, affect individuals bio-psycho-socially, limit their activities of daily living, and reduce their quality of life. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effects of aromatherapy massage applied in 12 sessions over 4 weeks on cramp frequency, pain severity, and quality of life. The study was conducted as a pretest-posttest, randomized controlled, and single-blinded using a quantitative and qualitative research design.

Background: Achievement of moisture balance can be a critical factor affecting time to closure of nonhealing wounds, and dry wounds can take much longer to heal than those with high exudate levels. Whether the goal of management is to donate moisture to the wound or control excessive fluid until the cause has been identified and addressed, choice of dressing and other wound management products can affect nursing resources, clinical outcomes, concordance, and quality of life for the patient.

Case Reports: The cases discussed illustrate differences in management approaches for dry and wet wounds and show how clinician support tools (eg, tissue type, infection/inflammation, moisture imbalance, epithelial edge advancement [TIME] clinical decision support tool) can facilitate treatment decisions.
