Green materials in semiconductors: perspective from the IRDS Beyond-CMOS roadmap.

Nanotechnology

January 2025

IBM research, 650 Harry Road, San Jose, California, 95120, UNITED STATES.

Environmental, Safety, Health, and Sustainability (ESHS) have become an indispensable issue in the semiconductor industry. The "Beyond CMOS" chapter of the International Roadmap for Devices and Systems(IRDS) roadmap introduces the concept of "Green materials", emphasizing their importance for maintaining sustainability in semiconductor manufacturing. We discuss the current trends of emerging architectures and devices in the perspective of "Green materials".

Determining the level of consciousness in patients with brain injury-and more fundamentally, establishing what they can experience-is ethically and clinically impactful. Patient behaviors may unreliably reflect their level of consciousness: a subset of unresponsive patients demonstrate covert consciousness by willfully modulating their brain activity to commands through fMRI or EEG. However, current paradigms for assessing covert consciousness remain fundamentally limited because they are insensitive, rely on imperfect assumptions of functional neuroanatomy, and do not reflect the spectrum of conscious experience.

A major challenge in the field of synthetic motors relates to mimicking the precise, motion of biological motor proteins, which mediates processes such as cargo transport, cell locomotion, and cell division. To address this challenge, we developed a system to control the motion of DNA-based synthetic motors using light. DNA motors are composed of a central chassis particle modified with DNA "legs" that hybridize to RNA "fuel", and move upon enzymatic consumption of RNA.

Objective: Digital services in primary care are becoming more common, yet access to and use of services can create inequities. Our aim was to explore the drivers, priorities, and evolving policy context influencing digital facilitation in primary care as reported by national, regional and local level stakeholders in England.

Methods: We conducted online semi-structured qualitative interviews with stakeholders, including those in NHS England organisations, local commissioners for health care, statutory and third sector organisations, those working within the research community, and digital platform providers.

METTL3 is the RNA methyltransferase predominantly responsible for the addition of N-methyladenosine (mA), the most abundant modification to mRNA. The prevalence of mA and the activity and expression of METTL3 have been linked to the appearance and progression of acute myeloid leukemia (AML), thereby making METTL3 an attractive target for cancer therapeutics. We report herein the discovery and optimization of small-molecule inhibitors of METTL3, culminating in the selection of as an proof-of-concept compound.
