Observations on a formaldehyde low-temperature steam sterilizer.

J Sterile Serv Manage

Published: October 1987

In Finnish hospitals, heat labile equipment is mostly sterilized by ethylene oxide (EO) gas. Formaldehyde sterilizers are rarely used. We have tested a new commercial autoclave constructed exclusively for formaldehyde and low-temperature steam (F-LTS) sterilization, offering a potentially safer and cheaper method of sterilization. Both the sterilizing efficacy of the apparatus and the levels of formaldehyde in the processed materials were studied.

Formaldehyde is considered as a significant contaminant. This study aimed to perform comprehensive research with systematic review, health risk estimation, meta-analysis, and Monte Carlo simulation to evaluate exposure to formaldehyde at different seasons of the year in various indoor environments. A systematic literature review was initially performed.

Modulating the electronic structure of noble metals via electronic metal-support interaction (EMSI) has been proven effectively for facilitating molecular oxygen activation and catalytic oxidation reactions. Nevertheless, the investigation of the fundamental mechanisms underlying activity enhancement has primarily focused on metal oxides as supports, especially in the catalytic degradation of volatile organic compounds. In this study, a novel Pt catalyst supported on nitrogen-doped carbon encapsulating FeNi alloy, featuring ultrafine Pt nanoparticles, was synthesized.

Formaldehyde (HCHO) is a harmful volatile organic pollutant, which is commonly found in interior decoration and furniture products. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a gas sensor that can quickly and accurately detect formaldehyde for human health and environmental protection. In order to achieve this goal, in this work, SnS/SnO heterostructure was synthesized by in-situ sulfurization process on the basis of SnO nanospheres, and its formaldehyde sensing performance was studied.

The manufacturing of soy-based adhesives with high bonding strength, excellent water resistance, and exceptional environmental performance still faces difficulties. In this work, using glyoxal-urea (GU) resin, chitosan (CS), and soy protein isolate (SPI) as the primary raw materials in order to effectively mitigate the release of free formaldehyde commonly found in traditional wood-based panels. Obtaining an adhesive with high strength, excellent water resistance, and a stable cross-linking structure of GU/CS/SPI (CS represents different mass fractions of chitosan solution).

Rate coefficients for the reaction of CH with CHO were measured for the first time over the temperature range of 37-603 K, with the CH radicals produced by pulsed laser photolysis and detected by CH radical chemiluminescence following their reaction with O. The low temperature measurements (≤93 K) relevant to the interstellar medium were made within a Laval nozzle gas expansion, while higher temperature measurements (≥308 K) were made within a temperature controlled reaction cell. The rate coefficients display a negative temperature dependence below 300 K, reaching (1.
