The project was carried out under the auspices of the Research Sub-Committee of the Victorian Branch of the Australian College of Health Service Administrators. It illustrates the way in which remedial action based on a thorough, systematic audit of energy losses can yield savings which are conservatively estimated to be worth tens of thousands of dollars per annum. While many of the energy saving functions proposed can be implemented at little or no cost, it is concluded that energy audits must be thoroughly and competently undertaken and the use of consultants is considered to have been well justified in this case.

The term "fragility fractures of the pelvis" refers to the disruptions of the pelvic ring that are caused by low energy injuries (such as low-level falls or falls from the standing position) in the elderly population (age over 65 years) in the absence of metastatic bone disease. These fractures are increasing in numbers, due to the aging population, particularly in the developed countries, causing significant morbidity and mortality [1]. Although some fracture patterns are stable enough requiring only conservative treatment, other fracture types can cause significant pelvic instability, demanding a more insistent management protocol.

Intracellular morphological apical-basal polarity, regulated by conserved polarity proteins, plays a crucial role in cell migration and metastasis. In this study, using a genetically encoded Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) biosensor to visually present the spatiotemporal stress state between the lipid rafts on the membrane and the linked actin, we first provide the evidence for the existence of intrinsic apical-basal stress polarity in tumor cells and demonstrate that this polarity is a prerequisite for the formation of flow-induced front-back stress polarity. Interestingly, our study revealed that the front-back stress polarity disappeared upon the disruption of intrinsic apical-basal stress discrepancy, resulting in a large attenuated cell migration activity reduced from 76.

Background: Obesity, classified by body mass index (BMI), is associated with higher postmenopausal breast cancer (BCa) risk. Yet, the associations between abdominal visceral (VAT) and subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) with BCa are unclear.
Methods: We assessed BCa associations with abdominal VAT and SAT in a prospective cohort of postmenopausal women without a history of cancer and with 27 years follow-up (N = 9950), during which all new cancers were adjudicated.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of Rho-associated protein kinase (ROCK) inhibitor Y27632 on bioenergetic capacity and resilience of corneal endothelial cells (CECs) under metabolic stress.
Methods: Bovine CECs (BCECs) were treated with Y27632 and subjected to bioenergetic profiling using the Seahorse XFp Analyzer. The effects on adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production through oxidative phosphorylation and glycolysis were measured.
