Objectives: Here, we have compiled all key statements derived from these guidelines and delved into details on which scenarios the diagnostic whole-body iodine scan (DxWBIS) might be useful.

Methods: We identified all relevant guidelines by searching the MEDLINE/PubMed databases, Google Scholar, and Ovid from 2006 onwards using keywords related to DxWBIS, RxWBIS, iodine scintigraphy, and iodine scan. We excluded case reports/series, original articles, and clinical trials while including guidelines or consensus opinions.

Imageable Brachytherapy with Chelator-Free Radiolabeling Hydrogel.

Adv Healthc Mater

October 2024

MOE Frontiers Science Center for Rare Isotopes, Lanzhou University, 222 Tianshui South Road, Lanzhou, 730000, China.

Brachytherapy stands as an essential clinical approach for combating locally advanced tumors. Here, an injectable brachytherapy hydrogel is developed for the treatment of both local and metastatic tumor. Fe-tannins nanoparticles are efficiently and stably radiolabeled with clinical used therapeutic radionuclides (such as I, Y, Lu, and Ac) without a chelator, and then chemically cross-linked with 4-armPEG-SH to form brachytherapy hydrogel.

Radio theranostics in paragangliomas and pheochromocytomas.

Rev Esp Med Nucl Imagen Mol (Engl Ed)

August 2024

Servicio de Medicina Nuclear, Hospital Universitario y Politécnico La Fe, Valencia, Spain; Clinical Center of Excellence Pheo Para Alliance.

This continuing education aims to present in a clear and easy-to-understand manner the biology of paragangliomas and pheochromocytomas (PPGLs), the functional imaging studies available for their diagnosis and therapeutic planning, the requirements necessary to administer radioligand therapy (RLT) and the characteristics of these treatments (inclusion criteria, administration protocols, adverse effects and future perspectives). In this pathology we have two RLT options: [I]MIBG and [Lu]Lu-DOTA-TATE. The indication for treatment is determined by the expression of its therapeutic target in functional imaging studies, allowing precision and personalized medicine.

Aim: As a classic theranostic radiopharmaceutical, radioiodine (I) has been utilized in the management of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) for more than 8 decades, and the refinement of its clinical practice has been raised recently. This study was conducted to evaluate the efficiency of a diagnostic (Dx) I scan in optimizing the indication of initial radioiodine oncolytic treatment (ROT) for metastatic DTC by predicting therapeutic outcomes.

Results: A total of 100 patients (Dx positive, n=29; Dx negative, n=71) were eligible for patient-based analysis.

Background: Occult thyroid papillary carcinoma (OTPC) is typically characterized by initial presentation with cervical lymph node metastasis and can be detected through ultrasound. However, the initial and sole manifestation was a submandibular solid-cystic mass. High-frequency ultrasound, enhanced multislice computed tomography (CT) scan, and thyroid function tests revealed no abnormalities, which is relatively uncommon.
