The results of 188 thoracoscopic operations for spontaneous pneumothorax (SP) were studied, in 47 from them videothoracoscopic technique was used. It was established that radical videothoracoscopic procedures, such as subsegmental resection of the lung combined with coagulation pleurodesis in primary pneumothorax, are almost untraumatic and highly effective both just after the procedure and in far off period. Palliative operations could be recommended in secondary spontaneous pneumothorax and at definite stages of surgical aid in primary SP.

Unlabelled: There are some reports of atrial screw-in lead perforation, but the entire lead body is rarely exposed outside the right atrium at an early stage of the procedure. A man in his 80s had undergone catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF) and had recurrent AF and tachycardia-bradycardia syndrome with 8.8 s of sinus arrest, which caused presyncope.

Purpose: In totally endoscopic off-pump left atrial appendage (LAA) closure and surgical ablation, securing the operative field is sometimes difficult in some patients because of a narrow working space caused by an elevated diaphragm or ventricles. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a method that facilitates securing the operative field using an artificial pneumothorax.

Methods: We analyzed 71 consecutive patients who underwent totally endoscopic off-pump LAA closure and bilateral pulmonary vein isolation.

Objective: To confirm that saline sealing of the needle trace after computed tomography (CT)-guided lung biopsy reduces the incidence of pneumothorax and chest tube insertion, and to observe its effects on pulmonary hemorrhage and hemoptysis.

Materials And Methods: Patients who underwent CT-guided lung biopsy at our hospital between January 2018 and January 2024 were included in the study. Patients were divided into 2 groups according to whether the needle trace was sealed with saline after tissue sampling.

Comparison of safety and effectiveness of medical adhesive and metal spring coil in preoperative localization of peripheral pulmonary nodules.

Front Med (Lausanne)

January 2025

Department of Thoracic Surgery, Shanghai Fourth People's Hospital, School of Medicine, Tongji University, Shanghai, China.

Background: Accurate preoperative positioning is the key to the success of thoracoscopic surgery for small pulmonary nodules. There are many methods for locating pulmonary nodules in clinical practice, but there are currently few research reports on the value of medical adhesive localization.

Objective: To compare the clinical value of two positioning methods, medical adhesive and metal spring coil, in the preoperative application of VATS through retrospective analysis.

Background: Globally, the number of cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) is increasing. In our study, we aimed to investigate whether CHADS-VASc and RCHADS-VASc scores are predictive of CIED-related complications.

Methods: Our investigation was carried out with a multicenter retrospective design.
