Rowell's syndrome is the name given to a distinct group of patients with lupus erythematosus who develop erythema multiforme-like lesions and have a characteristic serological picture. We report a case of a 29-year-old woman of Afro-Caribbean origin who presented with an erythema multiforme-like eruption on the hands. Subsequently she developed painful erythematous swellings on the feet and scaly plaques on the forearm and thigh consistent with subacute cutaneous lupus. She developed a positive antinuclear factor and had positive anti-Ro and anti-La antibodies and a positive rheumatoid factor. All of these features are consistent with Rowell's syndrome which we believe is a rare but distinct variant of cutaneous lupus erythematosus.

The evolution of T cell molecular signatures in the distal lung of patients with severe pneumonia is understudied. Here, we analyzed T cell subsets in longitudinal bronchoalveolar lavage fluid samples from 273 patients with severe pneumonia, including unvaccinated patients infected with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) or with respiratory failure not linked to pneumonia. In patients with SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia, activation of interferon signaling pathways, low activation of the NF-κB pathway and preferential targeting of spike and nucleocapsid proteins early after intubation were associated with favorable outcomes, whereas loss of interferon signaling, activation of NF-κB-driven programs and specificity for the ORF1ab complex late in disease were associated with mortality.

Turner syndrome (TS) is a genetic condition in phenotypic females in which the individual has 1 intact X chromosome and the second sex chromosome is absent or structurally altered Components of Y chromosome (eg, 45,X/46,XY) have been found in 5%-15% of patients with TS; these patients are often referred to as having "Turner syndrome with Y" (TS+Y). The presence of Y chromosome material increases risk for development of gonadal tumors. Historically, prophylactic gonadectomy has been recommended in this population to prevent malignancy, and patients were presumed infertile due to the presence of streak gonads with no germ cells (GCs).

Despite the various possibilities underlying their association, prompt identification, and treatment of SLE in patients presenting with EM is important to prevent death or serious organ damage.
Abstract: Rowell's syndrome (RS) is an uncommon presentation of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with erythema multiforme (EM)-like lesions associated with specific serological changes, including positive rheumatoid factor (RF), speckled antinuclear antibody (ANA), positive rheumatoid factor, or anti-La antibodies in the serum.
