Background: Increased rates of adverse pregnancy outcomes have been reported in association with rheumatologic diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, dermatomyositis. However, little is known about pregnancy outcomes in patients with autoimmune skin diseases.
Objective: This study aimed to determine the frequency of adverse pregnancy outcomes in patients with autoimmune skin diseases.

Furrows, lines and wrinkles with distensibility and retractility are a biological need of skin in the service of skin integrity, plasticity and joint motion. The fundamental segmentation and linearity of skin is genetically coded, manifested early in embryonal life and remarkably constant throughout life. The basic pattern established early in embryonal life when facial segments expand and fuse is confounded by overlapping linearities of different backgrounds.

Objective: To study disease course and long-term outcome in children with linear scleroderma (SSc) treated with methotrexate (MTX) since diagnosis.
Methods: The present study was retrospective and cross-sectional and included consecutive children with linear SSc who were treated with MTX for >1 year and were followed up for at least 2 years. Disease course was analyzed by the number of relapses and treatment changes.

Using a novel mouse model of scleroderma induced by immunization with topoisomerase-I peptide-loaded dendritic cells, Mehta et al. found that early-life antibiotic exposure resulted in increased later-life fibrosis in the skin and lungs. These observations advance the novel concept that gut microbiome alterations caused by early-life exposures may contribute to scleroderma pathogenesis, and warrant in-depth characterization and validation in complementary disease models.
