The dynamics of telomere attrition in human beings might shape the course of age-dependent, complex genetic traits. One of these traits is essential hypertension. Age-dependent telomere attrition could lead to critically shortened telomeres and aneuploidy (ie, the loss or gain of chromosomes) with a resultant mosaicism that will be variably expressed in different cells and tissues. The chromosomal instability and loss of heterozygosity resulting from this process would promote an age-dependent expression of variant genes that harbor susceptibility for essential hypertension or genes that accelerate the process of aging.

Background: The increased risks for cardiovascular comorbidities and cardiovascular diseases (CVD) in populations with normal weight obesity (NWO) have not been well-identified. We aimed to study their associations in an adult population in South China.
Methods: Based on the CVD prevalence of 4% in Shenzhen and a calculated sample size of 6,000, a cross-sectional study with a multi-stage stratified cluster sampling method was conducted in Shenzhen City.

The multitarget oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor sorafenib is an effective first-line treatment option in unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma. Through its mechanism of action, it has been associated with cardiotoxicity, mainly hypertension, which is usually low-grade and well-managed with behavioral changes and antihypertensor treatment adjustment, if needed. Acute, symptomatic heart failure is rarely described.

Background: Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) and mobile health (mHealth) applications have revolutionized the healthcare landscape in the areas of remote patient monitoring (RPM) and digital therapeutics (DTx). These technological advancements offer a range of benefits, from improved patient engagement and real-time monitoring, to evidence-based personalized treatment plans, risk prediction, and enhanced clinical outcomes.
Objective: The systematic literature review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the status of SaMD and mHealth apps, highlight the promising results, and discuss what is the potential of these technologies for improving health outcomes.

Estimating average blood pressure levels and prevalence of arterial hypertension (AH) and associated factors is essential to monitoring health and planning actions to combat noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in Indigenous peoples in Brazil. This is a cross-sectional study that investigated average blood pressure levels and prevalence of arterial hypertension in 4,680 Indigenous women (aged 18-49 years), using data from the 1st National Survey of Health and Nutrition of Indigenous Peoples (2008-2009) and associated factors, such as through gamma regression and multilevel logistics. The prevalence of hypertension was 10.

Background Aims: In clinical practice, the reduction of porto-caval pressure gradient (PCPG) following trans-jugular intra-hepatic porto-systemic shunt (TIPS) does not always meet the recommendation of current guidance. We evaluated the impact of different degrees of PCPG reduction, measured at the end of an elective TIPS, on ascites control, recurrence of portal hypertension-related bleeding (PHRB) and survival.
Approach And Results: Cirrhotic patients receiving TIPS for refractory ascites (RA) or for the secondary prophylaxis of PHRB were consecutively enrolled.
