This paper presents 15 cases of deep venous thrombosis of the upper extremity as a complication of previously asymptomatic thoracic outlet syndrome. The diagnosis was based on clinical examination and phlebography. To achieve prompt recanalisation of the vein streptokinase was used. Fibrinolytic treatment was followed by surgical treatment carried out 6 to 8 weeks after resolution of acute symptoms. The surgery consisted of excision of first rib and accessory cervical rib when present through the axillary approach. In 73% of cases complete lysis of the thrombus was achieved which was confirmed by phlebography and resolution of symptoms of venous hypertension.

The ribs, sternum, and costal margin provide a rigid, but flexible chest wall that functions to provide protection to the vital cardiothoracic organs, while also allowing for varying levels of respiration based on physiologic need. The latter function is accomplished through various muscular attachments and rib articulations with both the axial spine posteriorly and the sternum anteriorly. The accessory muscles of inspiration rely on the downward slope and outward curve of each rib, which when contracted move the ribs upward and outward, in turn forcing the sternum anterior and increasing the thoracic volume.

Breathing patterns (respiratory kinematics) contain vital prognostic information. This dimension of physiology is not captured by conventional vital signs. We sought to determine the feasibility and utility of quantifying respiratory kinematics.

Introduction: Different surgical approaches are used in aortic surgery. Retroperitoneal approaches can result in abdominal wall weakness and flank bulging. These approaches often require dissection of the anterolateral or anteromedial muscles of the abdominal wall.

This study presents the assembly and comparative genomic analysis of luminous strains isolated from the light organs of 12 fish species using Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) sequencing. The majority of assemblies achieved chromosome-level continuity, consisting of one large (>3 Mbp) and one small (~1.5 Mbp) contig, with near complete BUSCO scores along with varying plasmid sequences.
