An actinomycetes strain 3016 was isolated from a soil sample on a selective medium with actinomycin as a result of directed screening of organisms producing beta-lactam antibiotics. The culture fluid of the isolate contained an antibacterial anibiotic identical to cephamycin C. Description of the strain is presented. It is a representative of new variety of streptomyces filipinensis var. cephamycini var. nov. The results of the study of the chemical properties of antibiotic 3016 and its identification with cephamycin C are also presented.

Two novel actinobacteria, designated strains GY16 and T44, were isolated from the leaves and rhizosphere soil of , respectively. A polyphasic approach was used for determining their taxonomic position. Results of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that strain GY16 exhibited highest similarities to subsp.

The rise in the number of immunocompromised patients has led to an increased incidence of fungal infections, with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Furthermore, misuse of antifungals has boosted the number of resistant strains to these agents; thus, there is urgent need for new drugs against these infections. Here, the in vitro antifungal activity of filipin III metabolic intermediates has been characterized against a battery of opportunistic pathogenic fungi-, , , , , , , , and -using the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute broth microdilution method.

γ-butyrolactones (GBLs) are quorum sensing communication signals triggering antibiotic production. The GBL system of , the producer of the antifungal agent filipin, has been investigated. Inactivation of (for γ-utyrolactone eceptor), a GBL receptor, resulted in a strong decrease in production of filipin, and deletion of , a pseudo-receptor, boosted it, in agreement with lower and higher levels of transcription of filipin biosynthetic genes, respectively.

A novel actinobacterial strain producing an antifungal substance was isolated from a sample of acidic mine area soil, and its taxonomic position was evaluated. The novel strain, designated TW1S1, formed white-grey aerial mycelium and yellow substrate mycelium on oatmeal agar. Growth occurred at 10-45 °C (optimum, 30 °C), pH 4-9 (pH 6-7) and in the presence of up to 8 % (w/v) NaCl.
