A retrospective clinicopathologic study of 40 patients with lymphoid lesions of the conjunctiva demonstrated the validity of current histologic criteria in predicting clinical outcome. Overall histologic architecture as well as cytologic detail must be used to differentiate benign reactive lymphoid hyperplasia from lymphoma. Lesions verified clinically as being malignant had obvious malignant cytologic features. Clinical signs of surface follicularity, multifocality, and minimal elevation suggest benignancy. All the benign lesions, on histopathologic examination, were either follicular in architecture or composed of mature lymphocytes, and were generally restricted to the substantia propria. Bilaterality and clinical recurrence do not necessarily imply a malignant disease.

Introduction: Castleman disease is a rare lymphoproliferative disorder, subdivided into three types: unicentric Castleman disease, idiopathic multicentric Castleman disease and human herpesvirus-8 (HHV8) associated multicentric Castleman disease. The retroperitoneum comprises only 13 % of the cases.

Case Presentation: We report a case of a 36-year-old female who presented with skin lesions in a dermatology clinic.

This case report describes a rare case of bi-phenotypic gastric cancer with two distinct, but clonally related, histological components. The first component, associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection, exhibited the morphological features of gastric carcinoma with lymphoid stroma, suggesting that EBV, as an effective immunogenic factor, may trigger a prominent immune response within the tumour microenvironment. The second component, which was EBV-negative, displayed tubular/papillary morphology and features of increased biological aggressiveness, such as high-grade areas and lymphatic invasion.

Article Synopsis
  • Goose astrovirus (GAstV) poses a significant risk to China's goose industry, with two known genotypes, GAstV-1 and GAstV-2, the latter being linked to gout in goslings.
  • A new strain of GAstV-1, JY202323, was isolated and sequenced, revealing its genome is 7,252 nucleotides long and phylogenetic analysis shows it can be categorized into two subgroups.
  • Infections with JY202323 in one-day-old goslings led to diarrhea and a 13% mortality rate, primarily affecting the small intestine and lungs, without typical gout symptoms, highlighting its differing pathogenicity from GAstV-2.

The present study aims to better understand the nature of currently circulating GPV strains and their pathological impact on the immune system during natural outbreaks among different duck breeds in Egypt. For this purpose, 99 ducks (25 flocks) of different breeds, aged 14-75 days, were clinically examined, and 75 tissue pools from the thymus, bursa of Fabricius, and spleen were submitted for virus detection and identification. Clinical and postmortem findings were suggestive of GPV infection.
