Endothelial cells (ECs) senescence is critical for vascular dysfunction, which leads to age-related disease. DHCR24, a 3β-hydroxysterol δ 24 reductase with multiple functions other than enzymatic activity, has been involved in age-related disease. However, little is known about the relationship between DHCR24 and vascular ECs senescence.

Background: Increasing evidence highlights the importance of novel players in Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathophysiology, including alterations of lipid metabolism and neuroinflammation. Indeed, a potential involvement of Proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) in AD has been recently postulated. Here, we first investigated the effects of PCSK9 on neuroinflammation in vitro.

Hyperlipidemia (HLP) is one of the risk factors for memory impairment and cognitive impairment. However, its pathological molecular mechanism remained unclear. 3β-hydroxysterol Δ24- reductase (DHCR24) is a key enzyme in cholesterol synthesis and has been reported to decrease in the affected areas in the brain of neurodegenerative disorders.

Background: Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a highly aggressive neuroendocrine cutaneous carcinoma aetiologically linked to the Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV). Immune checkpoint inhibitors are currently the first-line therapy for metastatic MCC; however, the treatment is effective in only about half of patients, highlighting the need for alternative therapies. Selinexor (KPT-330) is a selective inhibitor of nuclear exportin 1 (XPO1) and has been shown to inhibit MCC cell growth in vitro, but the pathogenesis has not been established.

Hyperlipidemia is a risk factor for the development of fatty liver and cardiovascular diseases such as atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease, and hence, cholesterol-lowering drugs are considered important and effective in preventing cardiovascular diseases. Thus, researchers in the field of new drug development are endeavoring to identify new types of cholesterol-lowering drugs. 3β-hydroxysterol-Δ(24)-reductase () catalyzes the conversion of desmosterol to cholesterol, which is the last step in the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway.
