Society is split between a desire for access to quality health care and a reluctance, by some, to pay for it. Looking at this cost/access dichotomy historically enables one to recognize an emerging niche market--designer care delivered in a boutique setting.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) leads to acute tissue damage that disrupts the microenvironmental homeostasis of the spinal cord, inhibiting cell survival and function, and thereby undermining treatment efficacy. Traditional stem cell therapies have limited success in SCI, due to the difficulties in maintaining cell survival and inducing sustained differentiation into neural lineages. A new solution may arise from controlling the fate of stem cells by creating an appropriate mechanical microenvironment.

The use of treated wastewater (TWW) for agricultural irrigation is becoming more popular as a sustainable alternative to freshwater due to increasing water scarcity. While considerable research exists on the effects of TWW on soil microorganisms, its impact on soil nematodes, key indicators of soil health remains unexplored. This study assessed the effects of two years of TWW irrigation on soil nematode communities in abandoned fields cultivated with Lavender, Anise, Olive and Pomegranate trees.

Laboratory for Emerging Viral Zoonoses, WOAH Reference Laboratory for Rabies, FAO and National Reference Centre for Rabies, Department for Research and Innovation, Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie, Legnaro, Italy.

Unlabelled: The genus includes seventeen viral species able to cause rabies, an acute and almost invariably fatal encephalomyelitis of mammals. Rabies virus (RABV), which represents the type species of the genus, is a multi-host pathogen that over the years has undergone multiple events of host-switching, thus occupying several geographical and ecological niches. In contrast, non-RABV lyssaviruses are mainly confined within a single natural host with rare spillover events.

Background: Hybridization between evolutionary lineages has profound impacts on the fitness and ecology of hybrid progeny. In extreme cases, the effects of hybridization can transcend ecological timescales by introducing trait novelty upon which evolution can act. Indeed, hybridization can even have macroevolutionary consequences, for example, as a driver of adaptive radiations and evolutionary innovations.

Single-cell genomic technologies enable the multimodal profiling of millions of cells across temporal and spatial dimensions. However, experimental limitations hinder the comprehensive measurement of cells under native temporal dynamics and in their native spatial tissue niche. Optimal transport has emerged as a powerful tool to address these constraints and has facilitated the recovery of the original cellular context.
