Radiological and Pathological Analysis of Pembrolizumab-Associated Lung Lesions: Diagnostic Challenges and Management.

Am J Case Rep

January 2025

Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Faculty and Graduate School of Medicine, Mie University, Tsu, Mie, Japan.

BACKGROUND Pembrolizumab, a programmed cell-death protein-1 (PD-1)-targeting antibody, extends survival in cancer patients but may cause lung injury as a side effect. This immunotherapy enhances the immune system's ability to recognize and eliminate cancer cells. However, its immunomodulatory action can sometimes lead to immune-related adverse events, including lung injury.

A rare case report of endobronchial neurofibroma treated with transbronchial endoscopic resection and literature review.

Medicine (Baltimore)

September 2024

Department of Cardiology, Shaoxing People's Hospital (Shaoxing Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine), Zhejiang Province, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Endobronchial neurofibroma is a super rare type of tumor in the lungs that can cause symptoms like coughing and shortness of breath.
  • A 57-year-old man was diagnosed with this condition and his tumor was successfully removed using special tools without needing traditional surgery.
  • This case shows that new methods like electrical snaring and laser treatments can work well for certain lung tumors and could help other patients with similar issues.

May Small Airways Dysfunction (SAD) Play a Role in the Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and May SAD Be a Therapeutic Target?

Adv Respir Med

September 2024

Department of Lung Diseases and Tuberculosis, Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze, Medical University of Silesia, 41-800 Zabrze, Poland.

Small airway dysfunction (SAD) is a pathological process that affects the bronchioles and non-cartilaginous airways below 2 mm in diameter. This short review presents a link between SAD and IPF. Pathomorphological changes of small airways in fibrotic lungs are discussed.

Article Synopsis
  • Hypersensitivity pneumonitis (HP) is an uncommon lung allergy primarily caused by inhaling organic dusts, with rare instances linked to chemicals like phthalates found in plastics.
  • A clinical case involving a cable production worker demonstrated that symptoms initially diagnosed as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis were linked to chronic HP resulting from exposure to phthalates, confirmed by specific IgG antibodies and other clinical findings.
  • The study highlights the need for greater awareness of phthalates as potential triggers for occupational HP, as it has not been commonly recognized in previous case reports.

Objective To explore the regulatory mechanism of interleukin-33 (IL-33) on the inflammatory response in asthmatic mice. Methods Using 10 μg/mL of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) to establish a cellular inflammation model of mouse bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMMSCs), the cells were divided into three groups: small interfering RNA of IL-33(si-IL-33) group, IL-33 overexpression (IL-33-OE) group, and model group, based on the transfection status of si-IL-33 plasmid and IL-33-OE plasmid. Real-time fluorescence quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was used to detect mRNA expression of IL-33, nucleotide binding oligomerization domain-like receptor family pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3), IL-1β and IL-6.
