This study examines both the magnitude of and factors influencing the adoption of 13 horizontal and vertical integration and diversification strategies in a national sample of 797 U.S. rural hospitals during the period 1983-1988. Using organization theory, hypotheses were posed relating environmental and market factors, geographic location, and hospital characteristics to the adoption of horizontal and vertical integration and diversification. Results indicate that only one of 13 strategies was adopted by more than 50 percent of all rural hospitals during the study period, and that most of the directional hypotheses were not confirmed using Cox's proportional hazards models. In particular, environmental and market factors were unrelated to the strategies studied. Issues of methodology and theory are discussed; however, during an historically turbulent period, both relatively low levels of rural hospital strategic activities and lack of predictive power of the theory suggest caution in relying heavily on a policy for rural hospital survival that is dependent on individual market-oriented strategic behavior.

Background: There are several articles discussing the use of a hemostatic net to close dead spaces, but no in-vivo experimental studies have simultaneously examined the histology and tissue perfusion of these techniques.
Objectives: Our aim is to compare variations of the hemostatic net technique commonly used in current practice.
Methods: Two different hemostatic net suturing techniques and two times of suture removal were tested, with a control group for comparison.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence, location and diameters of Posterior superior alveolar artery (PSAA) and Infraorbital foramen (IOF) to find out whether there is any relationship between PSAA and IOF, and to predict their location relative to each other in surgical procedures by using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).
Material And Method: Bilateral maxillary sinuses were analysed retrospectively in 170 patients with no missing teeth in the maxillary posterior region. The largest locations of PSAA and IOF in the maxillary sinus were determined and their size, shape, location in relation to the teeth and distances from anatomical points were evaluated.

To alleviate water resource shortages and tensions and meet the water diversion needs of different river basins, buried (cross-dam) pipelines have become an essential component of water diversion projects. They are installed in levee projects in key river basins such as the Yellow River, Jingjiang River, and Beijiang River. Due to the complex engineering structure and multiple sources of vibration excitation, if vibrations propagate along the pipeline axis towards the surrounding levee, they could have an adverse impact on the stability and safe operation of the levee.

Huntingtin-associated protein 1 (HAP1) is an essential constituent of the stigmoid body (STB) and is known as a neuroprotective interactor with causal agents for several neurodegenerative disorders, including huntingtin (HTT) in Huntington's disease. Previous in vitro studies showed that compared to normal HTT, STB/HAP1 exhibited a higher binding affinity for mutant HTT. However, the detailed in vivo relationships of STB/HAP1 with endogenous HTT have not been clarified yet.

Objective: This study aimed at investigating implant survival rate and marginal bone loss (MBL) around extra-short implants. The impact of the loading protocol and of the use of an intermediate abutment was also evaluated, to explore possible differences in terms of the outcome measures.
Materials And Methods: Patients with single or multiple mandibular or maxillary posterior edentulism rehabilitated using extra-short 5-6 mm long implants were included.
