New Associations with the HIV Predisposing and Protective Alleles of the Human Leukocyte Antigen System in a Peruvian Population.

Viruses

October 2024

Centro de Genética y Biología Molecular, Facultad de Medicina Humana, Universidad de San Martín de Porres, Lima 15001, Peru.

The accurate determination of an individual's unique human leukocyte antigen (HLA) allele holds important significance in evaluating the risk associated with autoimmune and infectious diseases, such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. Several allelic variants within the HLA system have been linked to either increased protection or susceptibility in the context of infectious and autoimmune diseases. This study aimed to determine the frequency and association of HLA alleles between people living with HIV (PLHIV) as the case group and Peruvian individuals without HIV with high-risk behaviors of sexually transmitted diseases as the control group.

Updated-Food Choice Questionnaire: Cultural Adaptation and Validation in a Spanish-Speaking Population from Mexico.

Nutrients

October 2024

Doctorado en Ciencias de la Nutrición Traslacional, Departamento de Clínicas de la Reproducción Humana, Crecimiento y Desarrollo Infantil, División de Disciplinas Clínicas, Centro Universitario de Ciencias de la Salud (CUCS), Universidad de Guadalajara (UdeG), Guadalajara 44340, Mexico.

Background: Determinants and motives related to food selection have evolved in a globalized and changing world. The traditional and useful Food Choice Questionnaire (FCQ), created in 1995, needs to be updated, adapted to new scenarios, and validated.

Objectives: This study aimed to: (1) assess face validity (FV) of the original 36-item FCQ, (2) generate an Updated-FCQ (U-FCQ) and assess its content validity (CV) (instrument suitability), and (3) evaluate its construct validity and reliability in a Spanish-speaking population from Mexico.

Nosocomial infections are a significant cause of morbidity, mortality, and increased treatment costs in hospitals. This study aimed to analyze the factors determining the implementation of biosafety measures by the nursing staff of four hospitals in Piura via a structural equation modeling (SEM) approach. A total of 215 nurses from various hospitals in the region participated by completing an online survey.

BioProtIS: Streamlining protein-ligand interaction pipeline for analysis in genomic and transcriptomic exploration.

J Mol Graph Model

May 2024

Centro de Ciências Naturais e Humanas, Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC), Santo André, São Paulo, Brazil. Electronic address:

The identification of protein-ligand interactions plays a pivotal role in elucidating biological processes and discovering potential bioproducts. Harnessing the capabilities of computational methods in drug discovery, we introduce an innovative Inverted Virtual Screening (IVS) pipeline. This pipeline Integrated molecular dynamics and docking analyses to ensure that protein structures are not only energetically favorable but also representative of stable conformations.

Bones and teeth are important sources of Pleistocene hominin DNA, but are rarely recovered at archaeological sites. Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) has been retrieved from cave sediments but provides limited value for studying population relationships. We therefore developed methods for the enrichment and analysis of nuclear DNA from sediments and applied them to cave deposits in western Europe and southern Siberia dated to between 200,000 and 50,000 years ago.
