Background: High dietary calcium and phosphorus may accelerate vascular calcification, but epidemiological data are inconsistent. Most of those studies assessed diet at one point and have not been systematically evaluated.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the associations of dietary calcium and phosphorus intakes in middle age with coronary artery and extra-coronary calcification at older age.

Article Synopsis
  • Liver cancer rates have increased among American Indians/Alaska Natives, and blood DNA methylation could serve as a potential biomarker for cancer risk.
  • The study analyzed DNA from 2,324 participants aged 45-75 from various states, tracking liver cancer deaths over a follow-up period averaging 25 years.
  • Nine specific DNA methylation sites were linked to liver cancer, indicating how changes in methylation patterns could help predict liver cancer risk and mortality.

Identifying the cells from which cancers arise is critical for understanding the molecular underpinnings of tumor evolution. To determine whether stem/progenitor cells can serve as cells of origin, we created a Msi2-Cre knock-in mouse. When crossed to CAG-LSL-Myc mice, Msi2-Cre mice developed multiple pancreatic cancer subtypes: ductal, acinar, adenosquamous, and rare anaplastic tumors.

Needle-and-syringe-based delivery has been the commercial standard for vaccine administration to date. With worsening medical personnel availability, increasing biohazard waste production, and the possibility of cross-contamination, we explore the possibility of biolistic delivery as an alternate skin-based delivery route. Delicate formulations like liposomes are inherently unsuitable for this delivery model as they are fragile biomaterials incapable of withstanding shear stress and are exceedingly difficult to formulate as a lyophilized powder for room temperature storage.

Klebsiella spp. commonly cause both uncomplicated urinary tract infection (UTI) and recurrent UTI (rUTI). Klebsiella quasipneumoniae, a relatively newly defined species of Klebsiella, has been shown to be metabolically distinct from Klebsiella pneumoniae, but its type 1 and type 3 fimbriae have not been studied.
