Objective: Sierra Leone, a country where onchocerciasis is endemic in 14 of the 16 districts, was the focus of our investigation. Herpes zoster Ophthalmicus (HZO) affecting the ophthalmic division (V1) of the trigeminal nerve. HZO may cause extraocular muscle palsies, with the third nerve being the most commonly affected and the fourth nerve the least. The combined involvement of the optic nerve and isolated paralysis of the eye muscle is very rare, with only limited case reports documenting this complication of ocular herpes zoster.

Purpose: This study investigated the effects of pre-operative topical moxifloxacin prior to cataract surgery on the growth of ocular surface bacteria and induced antibiotic resistance after a 3-day course of moxifloxacin.

Methods: The study was a prospective, dual arm, randomized study. The study group of 17 patients used moxifloxacin four times daily, for three days prior to surgery.

Background: Conjunctival sporotrichosis is a rare fungal infection, typically presenting as granulomatous lesions. Its manifestations can be atypical, particularly in immunosuppressed patients.
