South American camelids inhabit high-altitude environments characterized by hypoxia, influencing embryonic, fetal, and placental development. This study examined the term placenta morphology of alpacas (, N = 12) and the immunoexpression of antioxidant selenoproteins (SP). We hypothesize that the placenta of alpacas, adapted to high altitudes, has characteristics with other species also adapted to altitude.

Background: Night shift work during pregnancy has been associated with differential DNA methylation in placental tissue, but no studies have explored this association in cord blood. We aimed to examine associations of maternal night shift work with cord blood DNA methylation.
Methods: A total of 4487 mother-newborn pairs from 7 studies were included.

Purpose: To evaluate the association between lateral placentation and adverse perinatal outcomes, including rates of small for gestational age (SGA) neonates, hypertensive (HTN) disorders, and preterm delivery, as well as postpartum hemorrhage and retained placenta.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study included all women with singleton pregnancies who underwent a trial of labor after reaching 24 weeks of gestation, at a single tertiary medical center, over a period of 6 years. The study group included women with lateral placentation.

The creatine (Cr) biosynthesis pathway buffers ATP in metabolically active tissues. We investigated whether sex of fetus and day of gestation influence Cr in endometrial and conceptus tissues from gilts on Days 60 and Day 90 (n = 6 gilts/day) of gestation. Uterine and conceptus tissues associated with one male and one female fetus from each gilt were analyzed for creatine, mRNAs, and proteins for Cr biosynthesis.

Mitochondria play a central role in nutrient metabolism, besides being responsible for the production of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), the main source of cellular energy. However, the ATP production process is associated with the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which excessive accumulation can cause mitochondrial dysfunction. This dysfunction, in turn, causes the accumulation of fatty acids in the adipose tissue, triggering a local inflammatory process that can evolve into systemic inflammation.
