To examine the relationship between erythrocyte membrane protein 7. 2b deficiency and the hemolytic anemia of human hereditary stomatocytosis, we created 7.2b knock-out mice by standard gene targeting approaches. Immunoblots showed that homozygous knock-out mice completely lacked erythrocyte protein 7.2b. Despite the absence of protein 7.2b, there was no hemolytic anemia and mouse red blood cells (RBCs) were normal in morphology, cell indices, hydration status, monovalent cation content, and ability to translocate lipids. The absence of the phenotype of hereditary stomatocytosis implies that protein 7.2b deficiency plays no direct role in the etiology of this disorder and casts doubt on the previously proposed role of this protein as a mediator of cation transport in RBC.

SNARE (soluble N-ethyl maleimide sensitive factor attachment protein receptor) proteins mediate membrane trafficking in eukaryotic cells. Both LjVAMP72a and LjVAMP72b are members of R-SNARE and belong to a symbiotic subgroup of VAMP72 in . Their sequences are closely related and both were induced in the root upon rhizobial inoculation.

Tissue-specific and intracellular localization of indican synthase from Polygonum tinctorium.

Plant Physiol Biochem

November 2018

Okayama University of Science, Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Science, 1-1 Ridai-cho, Kita-ku, Okayama, 700-0005, Japan. Electronic address:

The plant Polygonum tinctorium produces the secondary metabolite indican (indoxyl-β-D-glucoside), a precursor of the blue dye indigo. P. tinctorium synthesizes indican through the actions of the UDP-glucosyltransferase (UGT), indican synthase.

To evaluate the effect of laser irradiation at different wavelengths on the expression of selected growth factors and inflammatory mediators at particular stages of the wound healing process. Sixty-seven patients were recruited, treated, and analyzed (group A - 940 nm: 17 patients; group B - 808 nm: 18 patients; group C - 658 nm: 16 patients; group D - sham therapy: 17 patients). Patients received a basic treatment, including repositioning and mobilization, air pressure mattress and bed support surfaces, wound cleansing and drug therapy.

The signal recognition particle (SRP) is a ribonucleoprotein complex which is crucial for the delivery of proteins to cellular membranes. Among the six proteins of the eukaryotic SRP, the two largest, SRP68 and SRP72, form a stable SRP68/72 heterodimer of unknown structure which is required for SRP function. Fragments 68e' (residues 530 to 620) and 72b' (residues 1 to 166) participate in the SRP68/72 interface.

The double-histone-acetyltransferase complex ATAC is essential for mammalian development.

Mol Cell Biol

Department of Pathology, Genentech Inc., 1 DNA Way MS 72B, South San Francisco, CA 94080, USA.

Acetylation of the histone tails, catalyzed by histone acetyltransferases (HATs), is a well-studied process that contributes to transcriptionally active chromatin states. Here we report the characterization of a novel mammalian HAT complex, which contains the two acetyltransferases GCN5 and ATAC2 as well as other proteins linked to chromatin metabolism. This multisubunit complex has a similar but distinct subunit composition to that of the Drosophila ADA2A-containing complex (ATAC).
