Department of Conservation, National Office, PO Box 10-420, Wellington 6143, New Zealand..

Previously published phylogenetic results, based on three total individuals, recognized substantial-possibly species-level-diversity between these disparate localities, although no taxonomic decisions were made at that time.

We examine a phenotypically distinct population of P. nigrolineatus from the Guaviare River in southern Colombia at the southwesternmost corner of the Orinoco River basin.
