We evaluated the effect of SCF on myeloid differentiation by correlating clonogenic potential (as CFU-GM), bone marrow (BM) plasma SCF levels and CD34/c-kit expression in 57 MDS samples. There was a significant correlation between low SCF levels and 'leukemic' in vitro growth, the number of clusters and the colony/cluster ratio. No correlation was found between BM plasma SCF levels, the pattern of growth and CD34+ c-kit+ expression. These data seem to exclude any direct effect of SCF on leukemogenesis, but suggest that low plasma SCF levels may be at least partially responsible for leukemic growth in MDS.

Exploring the Impact of Systemic Inflammatory Regulators on Rosacea Risk: A Bidirectional Mendelian Randomization Analysis.

Clin Cosmet Investig Dermatol

January 2025

Department of Dermatology, Changshu No. 1 People's Hospital, Changshu Hospital Affiliated to Soochow University, Changshu, Jiangsu, 215500, People's Republic of China.

Objective: Rosacea is a common chronic inflammatory disorder primarily affecting the face. While inflammatory factors are known to play a pivotal role in its pathogenesis, their causal relationship with rosacea remains unclear. This study employed a two-sample bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to investigate the causal links between systemic inflammatory regulators and rosacea.

Protein ubiquitination is usually coupled with proteasomal degradation and is crucial in regulating protein quality. The E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase SCF (Skp1-Cullin-F-box) complex directly recognizes the target substrate via interaction between the F-box protein and the substrate. F-box protein is the determinant of substrate specificity.

Energy decomposition analysis (EDA) based on density functional theory (DFT) and self-consistent field (SCF) calculations has become widely used for understanding intermolecular interactions. This work reports a new approach to EDA for post-SCF wave functions based on closed-shell restricted second-order Mo̷ller-Plesset (MP2) together with an efficient implementation that generalizes the successful SCF-level second-generation absolutely localized molecular orbital EDA approach, ALMO-EDA-II, and improves upon MP2 ALMO-EDA-I. The new MP2 ALMO-EDA-II provides distinct energy contributions for a frozen interaction energy containing permanent electrostatics and Pauli repulsions, polarized energy-yielding induced electrostatics, dispersion-corrected energy, and the fully relaxed energy, which describes charge transfer.

Correlations of the expression of Cx43, SCF, p-cyclin E1 (Ser73), p-cyclin E1 (Thr77) and p-cyclin E1 (Thr395) in colon cancer tissues.

World J Gastrointest Oncol

January 2025

Department of Orthopaedics, Air Force Hospital of Eastern Theater, Anhui Medical University, Nanjing 230032, Jiangsu Province, China.

Background: Previous cellular studies have demonstrated that elevated expression of Cx43 promotes the degradation of cyclin E1 and inhibits cell proliferation through ubiquitination. Conversely, reduced expression results in a loss of this capacity to facilitate cyclin E degradation. The ubiquitination and degradation of cyclin E1 may be associated with phosphorylation at specific sites on the protein, with Cx43 potentially enhancing this process by facilitating the phosphorylation of these critical residues

Aim: To investigate the correlation between expression of Cx43, SKP1/Cullin1/F-box (SCF), p-cyclin E1 (ser73, thr77, thr395) and clinicopathological indexes in colon cancer.

Position Statement: The International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) presents this position based on a critical examination of the literature surrounding the effects of long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (ω-3 PUFA) supplementation on exercise performance, recovery, and brain health. This position stand is intended to provide a scientific foundation for athletes, dietitians, trainers, and other practitioners regarding the effects of supplemental ω-3 PUFA in healthy and athletic populations. The following conclusions represent the official position of the ISSN: Athletes may be at a higher risk for ω-3 PUFA insufficiency.
