Titratable acidity of the extracellular medium was compared with that calculated from pH changes in a suspension of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. After addition of cells to normal water the ratio of titratable acidity to the computed one was about 25, after addition of 50 mmol/L D-glucose it was about 13, after subsequent addition of K+ ions it was only 2. In heavy water the respective values were 30, 9, and 1. Apparently, the principal buffer-generating processes have to do with glucose metabolism but little with the K+/H+ exchange observed after addition of K+. D2O appears to block processes producing the buffering capacity of the medium, among them possibly extrusion of organic acids.

Pangenomes are replacing single reference genomes to capture all variants within a species or clade, but their analysis predominantly leverages graph-based methods that require multiple high-quality genomes and computationally intensive multiple-genome alignments. -mer decomposition is an alternative to graph-based pangenomes. However, how to directly use -mers for the population genetic analyses is unknown.

(YOL004W) codes for a protein in which is suggested to function as a broad cellular transcription regulator through the binding of histone deacetylases and other enzymes to form a large protein complex that modifies chromatin. In addition, has also demonstrated potential roles in epigenetic silencing, DNA methylation, and centromere function. Here we report a new role of in affecting mutation rates within the reporter gene, suggesting an impact on genome stability.

Yeasts have emerged as well-suited microbial cell factory for the sustainable production of biofuels, organic acids, terpenoids, and specialty chemicals. This ability is bolstered by advances in genetic engineering tools, including CRISPR-Cas systems and modular cloning in both conventional (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) and non-conventional (Yarrowia lipolytica, Rhodotorula toruloides, Candida krusei) yeasts. Additionally, genome-scale metabolic models (GEMs) and machine learning approaches have accelerated efforts to create a broad range of compounds that help reduce dependency on fossil fuels, mitigate climate change, and offer sustainable alternatives to petrochemical-derived counterparts.

Accurate tracking of live cells using video microscopy recordings remains a challenging task for popular state-of-the-art image processing-based object tracking methods. In recent years, many applications have attempted to integrate deep-learning frameworks for this task, but most still heavily rely on consecutive frame-based tracking or other premises that hinder generalized learning. To address this issue, we aimed to develop a novel deep-learning-based tracking method that assumes cells can be tracked by their spatio-temporal neighborhood, without a restriction to consecutive frames.
