Background: Methicillin-resistant (MRSA) is a significant burden globally, particularly in the Arabian Gulf region. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has experienced rising MRSA prevalence, with increasing diversity in the clonal complexes (CCs) identified. The COVID-19 pandemic, with its increased hospitalization rates and antibiotic use, may have further influenced MRSA's genetic evolution and epidemiology in the country.

Characterisation of Strains and Their Prophages That Carry Horse-Specific Leukocidin Genes .

Toxins (Basel)

January 2025

Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (Leibniz-IPHT), Leibniz Center for Photonics in Infection Research (LPI), Germany and InfectoGnostics Research Campus, 07745 Jena, Germany.

Leukocidins of (.) are bicomponent toxins that form polymeric pores in host leukocyte membranes, leading to cell death and/or triggering apoptosis. Some of these toxin genes are located on prophages and are associated with specific hosts.

Deep learning enabled rapid classification of yeast species in food by imaging of yeast microcolonies.

Food Res Int

Department of Food Science & Technology, University of California-Davis, Davis, CA 95616, USA; Department of Biological & Agricultural Engineering, University of California-Davis, Davis, CA 95616, USA. Electronic address:

Diverse species of yeasts are commonly associated with food and food production environments. The contamination of food products by spoilage yeasts poses significant challenges, leading to quality degradation and food loss. Similarly, the introduction of undesirable strains during fermentation can cause considerable challenges with the quality and progress of the fermentation process.

Dipnictogen Radical Chemistry: A Dithorium-Supported Distibene Radical Trianion.

J Am Chem Soc

January 2025

Department of Chemistry and Centre for Radiochemistry Research, The University of Manchester, Oxford Road, Manchester M13 9PL, U.K.

Although two examples of σ-bonded -bent [RSbSbR] (R = bulky organo- or Ga-groups) that formally contain the Sb radical trianion moiety are known in p-block chemistry, d- or f-element Sb radical trianion complexes, with or without R-substituents, have remained elusive. Here, we report that reduction of a 77:23 mix of [{Th(Tren)}(μ-η:η-Sb)] (, Tren = {N(CHCHNSiPr)}):[{Th(Tren)}(μ-SbH)] () with 1.5 equiv of KC in the presence of 1.

A dynamical rearrangement in the electronic structure of a molecule can be driven by different phenomena, including nuclear motion, electronic coherence or electron correlation. Recording such electronic dynamics and identifying its fate in an aqueous solution has remained a challenge. Here, we reveal the electronic dynamics induced by electronic relaxation through conical intersections in both isolated and solvated pyrazine molecules using X-ray spectroscopy.
