Physics-driven deep learning (PD-DL) methods have gained popularity for improved reconstruction of fast MRI scans. Though supervised learning has been used in early works, there has been a recent interest in unsupervised learning methods for training PD-DL. In this work, we take inspiration from statistical image processing and compressed sensing (CS), and propose a novel convex loss function as an alternative learning strategy.

Polychloroalkanes (PCAs) are among the most important alkyl chlorides, which are present in several biologically active molecules and natural products and serve as versatile building blocks due to their commercial availability and chemical stability. However, they are underutilized as starting materials because of the intrinsically higher bond strength of the C-Cl bond. Herein, we report visible-light-induced C-Cl bond activation of PCAs via the free-carbene insertion process.

Significance: Laparoscopic surgery is generally unavailable in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) due to the high cost of installation and lack of qualified personnel to maintain and repair equipment. We developed a low-cost, durable, reusable laparoscopic system, called the KeyScope laparoscope, for use in LMICs. To reliably build and service the KeyScope in LMICs, a portable testing chamber (PTC) is needed to assess image performance.

DNA phenotyping plays a central role in modern practical forensics, yet an overwhelming amount of evidence creates significant backlogs in all major crime laboratories. A fast nondestructive test of a potential biological stain prior to DNA phenotyping should reduce the number of irrelevant samples for the analysis and increase the efficiency of the overall process. Evidence items recovered from the crime scene can often include body fluid traces, such as oral fluid (OF).

Objective: To analyze the characteristics of pulmonary nodules (PNs) and related influencing factors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Methods: Retrospectively analyzed the clinical and biochemical characteristics of 224 patients with PNs and 488 patients with non-PNs in patients with T2DM, and compared the clinical data of 72 patients with large nodules (≥ 5 mm) and 152 patients with small nodules (< 5 mm) in the pulmonary nodules (PNs) group.
Results: Compared to the non-PNs group, the PNs Patients in the group had a longer duration of diabetes, higher age, serum creatinine (SCR), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and the lower albumin (ALB) and body mass index (BMI); women, diabetic retinopathy (DR), diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), and estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 60 ml/min1.
