The excessive dendritic development during the electrochemical evolution of the microstructures in rechargeable batteries can ultimately cause a short circuit, thermal instability, or runaway, and loss of active material. We initially develop a computational framework to quantify the bias of the electrodeposition on the roughened interface favoring the convex zones. Subsequently, we impose a countering temperature effect to enhance the diffusion on the trailing concave zones.

Salt enhanced chemical vapor deposition of WS and related 2D materials is widespread, and while many mechanisms including vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) mediated growth have been suggested, gaining a more detailed understanding remains challenging. We employ operando scanning electron microscopy to resolve the entire process of salt-assisted CVD of WS, focusing on a model system of individual, small (<100 μm), sapphire supported sodium tungstate (NaWO) salt particles. We reveal support interactions that lead a salt particle to develop a lateral halo interface, driven by surface eutectic melting above 630 °C.

The coffee-ring effect, caused by uneven deposition of colloidal particles in perovskite precursor solutions, leads to poor uniformity in perovskite films prepared through large-area printing. In this work, the surface of SnO is roughened to construct a Wenzel model, successfully achieving a super-hydrophilic interface. This modification significantly accelerates the spreading of the perovskite precursor solution, reducing the response delay time of perovskite colloidal particles during the printing process.

The aim of the study is to assess the impact of mechanical surface treatments on the shear bond strength (SBS) of orthodontic brackets bonded to three-dimensional (3D) printed and milled CAD/CAM provisional materials. Sixty cylindrical samples were fabricated for each provisional material. Samples were treated with one of the following surface treatments: aluminum oxide airborne particle abrasion, diamond bur rotary instrument roughening, and phosphoric acid etching (control).

Systems of oscillators subject to time-dependent noise typically achieve synchronization for long times when their mutual coupling is sufficiently strong. The dynamical process whereby synchronization is reached can be thought of as a growth process in which an interface formed by the local phase field gradually roughens and eventually saturates. Such a process is here shown to display the generic scale invariance of the one-dimensional Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class, including a Tracy-Widom probability distribution for phase fluctuations around their mean.
