Fast-Charging Lithium-Ion Batteries Enabled by Magnetically Aligned Electrodes.

ACS Nano

January 2025

Materials Science and Engineering Program and Walker Department of Mechanical Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, Texas 78712, United States.

With the increasing popularity of electric transportation over the past several years, fast-charging lithium-ion batteries are highly demanded for shortening electric vehicles' charging time. Extensive efforts have been made on material development and electrode engineering; however, few of them are scalable and cost-effective enough to be potentially incorporated into the current battery production. Here, we propose a facile magnetic templating method for preparing LiFePO (LFP) cathodes with vertically aligned graphene sheets to realize fast-charging properties at a practical loading of 20 mg cm.

Nanostructure engineering for ferroelectric photovoltaics.

Nanoscale

January 2025

Research School of Chemistry, The Australian National University, Canberra, ACT 2601, Australia.

Ferroelectric photovoltaics have attracted increasing attention since their discovery in the 1970s, due to their above-bandgap photovoltage and polarized-light-dependent photocurrent. However, their practical applications have been limited by their weak visible light absorption and low photoconductivity. Intrinsic modification of the material, such as bandgap tuning through chemical doping, has proven effective, but usually leads to the degradation of ferroelectricity.

Asymmetric self-organization from a symmetric film by phase separation.

Nanoscale

January 2025

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Kyushu Institute of Technology, 1-1 Sensui-cho, Tobata-ku, Kitakyushu 804-8550, Japan.

Self-organization realizes various nanostructures to control material properties such as superconducting vortex pinning and thermal conductivity. However, the self-organization of nucleation and growth is constrained by the growth geometric symmetry. To realize highly controlled three-dimensional nanostructures by self-organization, nanostructure formation that breaks the growth geometric symmetry thermodynamically and kinetically, such as tilted or in-plane aligned nanostructures, is a challenging issue.

Slopes influenced by multiple faults are prone to large-scale landslides triggered by multi-regional failures. Understanding the failure process and sequence is essential for the sustainable development of mining operations. This paper presents a method combining InSAR monitoring and numerical simulation to analyze the failure processes of slopes affected by multiple faults.
